Subaru Rally Team USA Takes Two Podium Positions in Inaugural RallyCar Rallycross Exhibition

Tire walls exploding, cars going sideways and infield dirt going in all directions, would usually indicate accidents at New Jersey Motorsports Park, but this weekend the competitors, racing the inaugural RallyCar Rallycross Championship, showed nothing is off-limits. Subaru Rally Team USA drivers, Travis Pastrana and Dave Mirra, in their Subaru WRX STIs raced head to head with other entrants in this weekend’s Rallycross competition, placing second and third respectively in the all-wheel drive class.

“It was great to be a part of the first United States competition of the Rallycross series,” said Pastrana. “The fans that came out in support of us were awesome and were definitely excited to see this new racing format. Thanks to Subaru, we had the right equipment to be successful and I am looking forward to future races.”

Newly sanctioned by RallyCar (formerly Rally America), SuperRally combines the action of circuit racing, off-road racing and rally competition into one exciting race. Developed from European Rallycross, drivers line up to start all at once, piloting high-horsepower, compact cars through race traffic over a challenging short course that features jumps, unbanked turns, hills and transitions between pavement and gravel.

“Racing on a modified road race course presents new challenges and opportunities,” commented Mirra, “the way we approached this race is completely different than any of the rally events this year. Subaru Rally Team USA placed well and with two more events this year we hope to keep Subaru on the podium.”

Final standings for the all-wheel drive class were as follows:
1. 34 Tanner Faust
2. 199 Travis Pastrana
3. 40 Dave Mirra
4. 74 Ramana Lagemann
5. 20 Andrew Comrie-Picard

RallyCar will hold two more exhibitions at New Jersey Motorsports Park. For more information, dates and ticket information please visit: rally-america.com.
