Patrick Richard Wins Rocky Mountain Rally

Subaru Rally Team Canada driver Patrick Richard was the undisputed champion of the Rocky Mountain Rally, round two of Canadian Rally Championship which held on 29-30 May near Calgary, Alberta. For Richard, this was the first victory of the season and placed him in a tie for the overall lead in the series.

Winning all but one of the event’s thirteen scheduled stages, Richard and co-driver Alan Ockwell finished the rally in their Subaru Impreza WRX STI over six minutes ahead of their nearest competitor, Andrew Comrie-Picard driving a Mitsubishi. Third place was claimed by Nick Mathew in a Subaru Impreza STI.

“We had a perfect rally-the car was fantastic and we had no major problems at all,” said Richard. “We led from the start and won every stage but one. The crew did a fantastic job and we’re now tied for the lead in the championships. I’m really looking forward to Baie des Chaleurs.” Subaru also dominated the race as a manufacturer. When the race was complete, an impressive seven out of the top ten drivers were behind the wheel of a Subaru:

The next race in the 2009 season is the Rallye Baie des Chaleur in New Richmond, Quebec, June 26-27.
