Subaru rally driver Cody Crocker has scored maximum points at ANCOM Malaysian Rally, round five of FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) which was held from 15-16 August around Johor bahar, Malaysia, to take a stranglehold on the race for the series. Crocker’s Motor Image teammate, Emma Gilmour has powered to her best-ever result in international rallying, finishing runner-up which brought to Subaru 1-2 finish.

Rain made for exceptionally slippery roads on the rally’s opening day, with Taguchi one of those who fell prey to the conditions; he crashed his Mitsubishi Evo into retirement on the day’s seventh stage, leaving the way clear for Crocker and Gilmour to score their first one-two finish for the Motor Image Subaru Racing Team.
“The roads were incredibly slippery, particularly on the opening day when it just bucketed down the whole time,” Crocker said. “On day 2, at least the rain stayed away, but the damage to the roads had already been done. It was a really tough weekend. On Day 2, the temperature hit 37 degrees, with high humidity, so to maintain condition and concentration takes a huge effort”.

With Taguchi out, Crocker cruised to a comfortable victory and scored maximum points which positions him strongly to take out the 2009 Championship as he now has 63 while 36 for Taguchi. Emma Gilmour also is standing third place in the series, within only two points of former champion Katsu Taguchi.
The next round of the APRC, round six “Gudang Garam International Rally Indonesia” will be taken place from 3-4 October.
