Default $5 ikea mudflaps!

thanks to aerioAWD for the link, i went ahead and got the ikea mudflaps installed. aerioAWD told me about some flexible cutting boards that would work as mudflaps and so i went and checked them out. looked like they would work good, so i picked up 2 packs (each pack contains 2 cutting boards). both packs cost me just under $5 and that included tax. i used some bolts and stuff that i had in my tool box at work, but i imagine you could find what you need at lowe's easily (nuts, bolts, and washers).

the only thing i found weird about them was the fact that in each pack, one cutting board was lighter in color than the other. it didn't bother me, but i just put the lighter color ones on one side and the darker ones on the other side. if you are a little more picky, you may want to pick up 4 packs, thus you would have 2 sets (yay for a spare set).

when i compare them to the sparco flaps that i had previously, you really can't beat $5 and the fact that they had dark grey/blackish, that sealed the deal for me.

They look alright. I would adjust them a little. It looks like the left rear needs to be tilted a little.

Not bad though. I used old rubber floor mats once.

They could also probably be used under the car to protect stuff like maybe to the bottom of control arms or some thing like that.

well much thanks for spreading the idea which found its way to me.

as far as adjusting them, too much work. i'm not worried about making it look show quality. if you saw the driver's side door you would understand (dented to hell).

fyi these flaps do not hold up to heavy use. a friend (who is on this forum) used a set for a rallyx last month. the course was very rough and had a lot of rocks - by the end of the first run they were cracked up. by the end of the day, they were demolished. based on this I believe the Ikea flaps would be useless for this purpose. they work well as a cheap, consumable flap but probably not so great for anything else

so you live out in mission valley?

it took me more than a little bit of looking, but they should be in kitchen ware side. you should be able to take the product # from the link and have someone look it up for you at the store. they'd be great to keep as spares.
