(Not another) Skidplate DIY, but under $20!

Thu, 19 Aug 2010 06:08:38 GMTThis has probably been done before (and I've also posted this on rs25), but I've thought I'd share what I've just done. I was at a local junkyard the other day, and walking around I've noticed a 1985 Subie wagon (DL? GL?). It had a steel skidplate underneath, which looked to be OEM (as I've seen another 85 with it). I took it off, ran me about $10 bucks. Since I'm getting more involved with rallycross I've decided to put it on my 2000 RS. It's a perfect size and fits right under the oil pan (with 1/2-3/4in spacers). I've had to re-drill new holes for the front (on the skidplate), but other than that, it was a perfect fit! It wasn't even all that hard to install, using stock bolt locations. It doesn't cover the headers, but it does protect the oil pan (and keeps things cooler). I took a crappy cell phone picture, but it does show the plate. I'll try for some better ones tomorrow.

This is a collection of tutorials I've gathered done by me and other Baja modders. A Lot of these are Baja-specific but could be very useful for other Subaru models. If you know of a useful tutorial that can be included in this thread then please let me know and I will add it to the list. Enjoy!;)
I very much appreciate the help and support I've received from YBajaSteve and the rest of the Scoobytruck.com community. The inspiration I've received from them has been priceless, and I couldn't have done this without you. Thank you so much!

http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17343&goto=newpost
Fri, 13 Aug 2010 22:17:07 GMTI do rallycross and I'm interested in getting some tow hooks for if the car breaks down..whatever. I don't know how to weld, nor do I have welding tools. I have looked at the Beatrush ones on rallysportdirect.com and was curious if any body had used these, or any other tow hook for that matter that you would recommend. Anybody bought any off the web that hold up very good?
Thanks.
