So I took my set of gold STi BBS wheels out to a rallycross where the surface was ground up asphalt, and my usual sliding, etc. totally chipped up the paint - so where there once was smooth glossyness, there are now lots of paint-chipped dings where I can see the silver alloy. (The debead I had also scratched up one real good :) )
Now normally, I don't care about scratches - but these wheels were pretty expensive.
So question... how well do the silver BBS wheel paint hold up for gravel rallycross?
Also, is there any way I can tell if a wheel has been resprayed? I'm assuming these are the original paint, but I have to admit that I was surprised at how delicate the paint is.

You really raced on the WOST surface. Stripped Asphalt is like gravel.. with SPIKES. Any wheel is going to get chipped on a surface like that. As for the BBS rims, silver will chip just as easy as the gold. It's the same process.
Do you own an STI? Or do you have those rims just for looks? If the latter, it would probably be a good idea to get some cheaper rims you don't mind getting torn up.

You raced on chipped asphalt? Lawl, hows your paint look?!?? The wheels are plenty durable but on that surface some wear and tear is going to happen.

Heh - the paint looks like crap now!
The wheels are great - I got them for the extra rubber over the stock 205's but I don't want to have to baby these things.
Are paint chips hard to see on the silver BBS's? Seriously, these goldies will only get more destroyed if they stay on this car. I've got a few extra sets of stockers, but I'd prefer not to have to switch them out all the time.

The paint chips in silver wheel are not as noticible as a painted wheel cause the aluminum will blend a bit into the silver.
In a gravel rally cross, your wheels will get chipped. As far as damage, if there are any bigger rocks on the course, they may possibly dent your wheels also.

I chipped my Silver BBS rims the first 10 mins I owned the car (took it to a gravel pit and had some fun). The silver rims dont show the chipping as much (as you can see in the pics). I still have them on the car, and they have taken a beating, but still hold thier structure (they are not bent yet), so I would say they are really durable.
