Well we survived our first "real" rally. UP2, Subyspawn and myself were on the service crew for Eli Gilbert in his open 4wd class WRX. It was an awesome experience and alot of fun.
There was a bit of work running around between services to get setup but we seemed to have plenty of time. The car did'nt have any major problems and we ended up 4th in class/13 overall. I think my bro got some pics and Jon got pics/video so I'll leave it up to them to post....but I must say it was a blast and I can't wait to go back to that place (DI meet 2) wouldn't be bad there!!!!
Oh yeah Aaron we slapped a DI sticka right on the back of the car!!! Bros got the pics...

definitely a great time!

now, if we can just find a 'quick and easy' way to unpack/packup all those tools, you'd have the ultimate 'service crew' set up.
I couldn't believe how many tools this guy brought....I want him on my first stage rally crew!

Yeah i was so bummed that i couldnt have been there. I really needed to get my feet wet being around a legit stagerally! this would have been the perfect opportunity. Oh well, the though did cross my mind as i was boozing on the cataraman in san diego in the sun... :P
I searched on rallyxportal for some pics, but didnt see any yet. I cant wait! Thats awesome about the sticker on there!

Heck Yes!! I try to go over prep'd.
My official opinion: Way more organized than a rallyx so it was very easy to figure out what was going on. In the beginning I was a bit intimidated cause I wanted to make sure we were in the right place at the right time but it was cake.

Hey everyone . This is my first post here. Gorman was a blast and our Subaru did very well. A few hickups but overall very solid. The roads were about as bad as anyone had ever seen there, more like goat trails to be sure. This was our first real stage rally after our roll at RIM 2007 in our MItsu Galant.
But we survived, and the car is now going to be completely gone through for our next event, which I am hoping will be Laughlin. I need to get it off the expensive 100 octane diet first though.
About the roof scoops, they were installed by the previous owner of the car and really are a blessing. They double the amount of air coming into the car while on stage - which, in 100 degree heat / triple layer nomex driving suit / helmet / nomex gloves / nomex backlava / nomex shoes - can really be a killer.
Another advantage of them is to introduce positive air pressure into the cabin which then prevents (for the most part) dust and dirt from entering into the 1,000 holes we have (You'd be amazed at how many holes are under your carpet and the undercoating!). This helps especially when you hit a rock which then rips a 6-inch hole into the floorboard - which happened to us.
Thanks again to our excellent service crew - the Jackson brothers, and Jon.
If anyone has any questions about this event or rallying in general, please let me know and I'd be happy to offer up my (somewhat limited) experience.

Eli, thanks for joining up on our humble home. The car looks great and i totally wish i coulda been there to witness the action first hand!
I never really thought about how having all that positive air pressure in the car would keep out dust! Thats a big added bonus to keeping the cabin a lot cooler. I for sure want to get one for the RS...
any tips for an a n00b that wasnt to try his first stage rally? (im shooting for Gorman next year)
