I went to advanced auto parts bought the absolute cheapest pads 30$ a pair, lifetime warentee... Since mine were metal to metal...

Went and gave them a test run later that night... Once I got home the pads were ON FIRE.... so I blew the fire out, and let the car sit, the rotors stayed RED in the dark for 15 minutes....

So anyways Today, I Gave them a test run AGAIN.. they caught on fire again, this time I couldn't blow it out with my breath... So I drove around @ 60miles an hour without toching the brakes untill I got home... about 4 minutes... The fire went out, and they glowed like this for 10 more minutes...

Anyone else have them go up in flame? I was talking to a BMW tuner in ATL, he said it has happened to him before... but with really expensive pads, and rotors, on cars that do 160mph....

damned!!!!

I ordered EBC Reds before I went to the cobb meet, but they didn't arrive ontime so I ended up going to Kragen to get a cheap ($30) set of pads for the rear...same as you, almost metal on metal.

I don't think my pads are doing that...damned. I do have the legacy rear brake upgrade, so my rear rotors are vented.

that's rough....I'd go back and get your money back. Order EBC green or red.

Yeah this is the deal with cheap pads... ( I just had this discussion with one of my s2k buddies that is going to the track in a few weeks)

... dont use them unless youre driving like grandma to the store and back! Not only does it suck when they catch on fire, but its can be detrimental to your rotors and calipers too! I saw a guy melt his street pads after about a dozen laps at the track, they ended up melting onto his rotors and jammed the insides of his Brembo calipers. They were all replaced afterwards, basically he needed all new rotors, calipers, and pads.

Theres a reason why people spend $120 for a pair of racing brake pads! Because they can withstand the heat of hardcore braking!

I took em apart today, it seems like the pads are untouched... The paint on the backside of the pad is what melted, caught on fire...

Otherwise I bled my fluid just incase... It seemed fine, So my assumption is, that the pads are resisting the heat, and all the heat is in the rotor....

These are temporary, as I just slapped them on as I had been metal to metal for 2 weeks... Guess I'll be Buying GOOD pads and rotors before I buy struts....
