at the last couple rallycross events i noticed a participant spraying what appeared to be a silicone spray on the contact patch of his tires. i've been thinking about this and i don't know exactly how this helps.
all i can come up with is that it keeps crud from staying buried in the treads?

maybe.....but was he re-applying? I only see that working for a short time.
I have a buddy that puts WD-40 on his plastic wheel well liners to keep mud/dirt from caking on. it works pretty well.

All I can think of is using it to keep the tread free and clean while spinning. not sure tho. Seems interesting

If you need to clean the tires more horse power should do it. :-)

Odd one, I've heard that 4 byers use baby oil on their truck/jeep bodies to make them easier to clean. I don't see spraying tire treads as helping any.

WD40 will help a bit with mud caking issues on the inside of your wheels causing it to unbalance, but it doesnt last.

Mudd-Off....mountain bikers, motocross and off-road racers have used it (or similar) for years
It's for the shiny tire bling

i dont know about the tires but spraying WD-40 on the wheels is helpful in the winter time. it helps keep ice from building up on the wheel.
WD-40 was originally design as wing de-icer for planes. so coat the inside of your wheels with it in the winter and you shouldnt get any reall ice build up on the inside of the wheel.

All the "hard core" show car guys, just love spraying their wheels with teflon/cooking spray . ( ...to help with brake dust, I guess. )
On tires it should work, ( keeping then unclogged ) but would you get any traction ( issues ) because of it ??? Hmm ...

I remember spraying a lot of PAM on my bikes' SPDs to keep them from clogging with mud.
Not sure if it worked worth a damn or not, but it smelled really good :)

Most Professional GNCC Riders spray WD40 in there fenders to help cut the additional weight of the dirt & mud. I did it and its work. If your serious i would recommend it.

but wouldn't the crudkiller,wd40, wear off rather quickly on the road surface so you shouldn't have to worry about traction issues. but if so it would probably wear of the treads pretty soon after that anyway soo......
....i got nothin.
