DirtyImpreza.com Project Rally RS Tastes Dirt for the First Time
Months of preparation pay off as its maiden event goes off without a hitch
Aliso Viejo, CA – After months and months of fabrication and prep, the Project Rally RS finally hit the dirt at the FRX / 505 Motorsports rally cross at Glen Helen in San Bernardino, CA. It has been a long road assembling this car from the ground up, but everything finally came together as it was given a shakedown in the highly competitive Rally 4 wheel drive class.
In order to get the car legally drivable and rally ready, some last minute motor work was handled at Millennium Motorsports in Temecula, CA. The valves were adjusted, valve cover seals replaced, and the problematic header studs were drilled out and replaced. The result was a Subaru naturally aspirated EJ25 motor that was purring like a kitten, but ready to pounce on the gravel only days later.
Our rally tires were mounted on the Team Dynamics Pro Rally 1 gravel wheels at Americas Tire Co, and we were ready to tear up the course. The car performed even better than I had anticipated, plenty of torque to power out of tight corners, and the All Wheels Driven coilovers sucked up the biggest of ruts with ease. As a driver, I am still adjusting to the increased amount of grip offered by the gravel tires. Its like night and day compared to my days running in Street Modified 4! In the end we finished seventh overall out of 48 total entries, not to shabby…
Rally decals are in production right now, and the next event we will be graphically representing all of our amazing sponsors. Thanks goes out to Greg at Millennium Motorsports, Kyle at Jackson Rally, and Dave, Louie, and Mike, the organizers of the Glen Helen rally cross events.
