Hey all!

Just wanted to stay I went stage I tonight with my 03 WRX and am loving it!! Bought the tuner used from Canada and it works like a charm and makes driving my fine automobile even more fun!! Well anyways just wanted to let you all know it was really easy to install, and definitely made a difference in the seat of the pants dyno.

stage 2 was a better improvement imho. but stage 1 made it more enjoyable to drive for sure.

stage II is definitely in the future, just doing one part at a time.

Yep, stage 2 is night and day. Feels like a whole new car. Make sure you have all the supporting mods for it first though (to get the most out of it!)

Supporting mods as in intake mods, catless downpipe, and then a catback?

you dont want any intake mods with the accessport stock maps. just a 3" turbo back exhaust ideally. the downpipe doesnt have to be catless.

in fact a catless setup will be more prone to over boosting which can be very very bad.

I'm not sure if this is entirely true. You will be prone to overboosting without the AP maps when you are running a catless DP (at least i was). Once i bought an AP and flashed my ECU to stage to, the overboost condition was remedied.

I thought i read somewhere that catless turboback was ideal for stage 2.

I do agree though, intake mods are not necessary. I have been running the stock airbox with a drop in K&N.

I've actually been researching the accessport and other mods to go with it for a few months, here is what I have come up with:

The over-boosting occurs when you have an aftermarket downpipe without the proper tune to go along with it. The Cobb Stage 2 tune will prevent the overboosting by tuning for the less restrictive downpipe.

Also, I think the intake will improve overall performance but is not necessary. I have the Perrin drop in filter, and a snorkus delete pipe.

lol i forgot i deleted my snorkus as well.

Even with the AP you still have a chance at boost spike. As for the Cobb AP, I was not very happy with it on my brothers catless 03 WRX. Seems the only real difference came in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear, but boy did it hit harder up in that range.

Just do it and see i guess.

You can always go and get it protuned.

What type of DP are you running on your STI?

so, me having the spt intake, headers, up, dp, and tbe (all catless) puts me out of the access port market?

i have not tuned the car yet (no-moo-la)

Actually your car is in dire need of a tune at this point. You could start with a Cobb AP Stage II map since you already meet their requirements. Other options would be an opensource reflash.

isn't no tune with those mods dangerous on our newer subarus? IIRC the spt intake is ok on the stage 2 cobb map, but i dont think it has a provision for the headers/up. but it would still be better than no tune i would think.

Yeah, I think you definitely need either a pro-tune or a stage 2 cobb tune before your sh*t goes "krr plunk"

I've read you guys mentioning that it's better to have the stock intake with the Cobb AP. I have the SPT intake and the SPT catback exhaust and that's it. Would the Cobb AP be worth my while?

The SPT intake will work fine with any of Cobb's OTS maps either stage 1 or 2. The stock intake is better suited for use with an AP than an aftermarket intake (AEM, Injen, Ebay, etc) because of changes in MAF sensor placement and associated readings. With an SPT (or Cobb) intake those readings aren't significantly different versus the stock intake.

As for it being worth your while, that is a question of personal preference. Any car in my opinion is going to be better with a tune, especially the turbo Subies that most of us on this site have. I prefer the AP as it allows me to flash between maps on the fly and since I am often out of town and E-85 (my preferred fuel) is not always available I need to be able to switch to an appropriate 91 octane map. Also I can load an anti-theft map on whichever car I am not using since I don't have an immobilizer. From a cost stand point though I've spent ~$500 on tuning per car plus the cost of each AP. Where as with an opensource tune you wouldn't have the cost of the AP to budget in.

ehh when i had the catless exhuast on my 07 and stage 2 it spiked hella hard i mean the peak boost was suppose to be like 19.5 and i was hitting as much as 24 lbs....needless to say my turbo went out. I didnt learn my lesson and i threw a brand new turbo on from the factory and i blew that one too....so on the third try i decided to by a perrin catted dp and new turbo.....i still spike as much as 21 but not as bad. i mean save your self the heart ache if you have an 07 STI...lmao......the basturd child of subaru....shiity ring landings and wastegates that dont open lmao VF43 FTW!!! needless to say i blown 2 motors, one on bone stock...and on cobb....both warrantied. just decided to throw my experience out there....this is more of a knock on the 07 subaru than cobb....cobb is awesome....they even tell you no fckin catless on 07 models...the over boost is a MECHANICAL failure inherent in all 07 models and CANNOT be tuned around...but you can get their bigger restrictor pill for 5 bucks or from subaru for like 3.50. the problem i ran into is then my car didnt want to hit its peak boost numbers so i just decided on the perrin dp and left it at that now i got about 10k on the set up and im beating the crap outta the car and doing just fine.
