So, I spent this past weekend playing in the woods. Saturday I was car 99, course closing, at the Galway Cavendish Forest Rally here in Ontario. This is probably the easiest and most fun job in the rally (follow the last car, drive quick but not all out by any means, and get to see any cars that have gone off, etc). I had a blast, more stone chips as usual and one blown strut-top spherical bearing (hotbits strut-tops are crappy), but nothing all that major.

Sunday, we went further north and spent the day doing more exploration of trails that lead off stage roads used in the Rally of the Tall Pines. We're exploring everything so we know what's where and where we can expect people to potentially come from. This often means driving my car down things that really are only suitable for ATVs, trying not to get stuck, trying not to use the skidplate too hard, etc. Still, it's fun to play Jeep/ATV sometimes

Wicked awesome!!! Its a blast driving the stages.
And I'll agree.... it is fun to play Jeep sometimes.
And you borked the strut top bearing? I was under the impression that hotbits were fairly durable... seeing as how they are a name commonly associated with stage rally... nice work putting them to the test!!

Well, the hotbits shocks themselves seem to be really reliable, I've had my single adjustables for over a year now and not had to rebuild them yet, and they had 5 performance rallies on them when I bought them. The mounts I've never had any luck with though. If you hit something hard enough to get to the bump stops on them, the loads just go through the shock and into the camber plate mounts, and the spherical bushings deform and there ya go, clunky shock. I've replaced 3 bad bushings since I got them, add this one to the tally. The Planet Motorsport rallycar went through loads too, two sets of fronts in one rally while I was co-driving at Defi last year.

The only other damage I did, other than some new dents in the floor, was snapped one of the clips on the driver's side side skirts, actually punched the skirt up at one point so much I couldn't open the door!

Ah well, it was fun, worth it. Just a pain to have to pull that strut out now and replace the bearing (I've got spares though, since I go through so many...)

Yes, Andrew is a great photographer. He also mooned me on the first stage at Galway, and flashed his nipples at me on the second-last! ;)
