how much would a 2002 STI engine rebuild cost?

i found a 2002 WRX STI Prodrive W/ 62K miles for 50K SEK (thats like $6K) with a blown motor. not sure what happened but the heads are said to have been rebuilt, i am thinking oil starvation.

If this would happen im going OEM spec. and im building myself, in other words just in parts.

what would be doing it right? 12K is still under market price for a working STI

check your local priice for a shortblock from a dealer. that is OEM spec without you having to do the labor and without the markup on every individual componeont. Around here they go for under $2500 from a dealer (that is for USDM shortblocks). Labor to swap it is not all that much. You could even see if you could get a USDM 2.5 and be the envy of your friends ;)
