Ok so Thordissa my 2004 Forester XT has started smoking. It only started smoking after we went stage 2 on her. Mods underhood are a full TBE (Megan Racing DP and catback), up pipe (BPM) and thats all. Maintenance performed in the last month has included fuel filter (OEM), air filter (K&N), spark plugs (NGK Iridium, stock heat range, gapped at 030), PCV valve, belts, tranny flush, front/rear diffs serviced and cooling system flush/condition.
The smoking is primarily oil, as indicated from bluish smoke and smell. It doesn't smoke on start up, cold or warm. It doesn't smoke at idle, or under boost while driving. Smoke is noticed only after 10+ minutes of driving and then only when under vacuum. In other words I can drive down the highway/around town, play with the throttle all with no smoke. Then I get off the highway or come to a stoplight and bam instant puff of blue smoke out the tailpipe.
We've checked compression twice in the past 2 weeks, readings identical both times. 110 to 115 psi on all 4 cylinders. It's a touch low but given altitude and mileage not bad. Leakdown tests showed ~5% at 95 psi.
Inspection of turbo shows no shaft play and no heavy signs of oil.
Intercooler showed typical light oil coating but nothing beyond that. We've installed catch cans, one in line from the valve covers to intake and the second is in line from crankcase breather to intake. We've also changed oil, from 5-30 conventional to 5-30 synthetic, then to 10-30 synthetic. We've flashed back to stock map as well ( :-( ).
If any one has any ideas please let me know cause we are scratching our heads and running out of ideas. Very frustrating. The car still pulls like a mother and I see 23-25 mpg with mixed 65/35 hwy/city driving.
