So what did you guys think? Some creative track design made for some awesome finishes!

It was pretty sweet. I am still disappointed that Block lost. I was also hoping to see a Block/Pastrana show down for the final. Disappointed in the Pastrana/Mcrae race as well. Dont get me wrong, it was a great race, and the crash/flip was cool.. But the race was over after Mcrae crashed. I wanted to see them go all the way to the finish.
I also think that the X Games race gives people the wrong idea of Rally. I don't consider the X Games a staged rally event there in the stadium. My mother, father, and girlfriend all saw "Rally" racing for the first time today on the X Games... And now expect it to be in a stadium with seating and what not instead of a 7-10mile stage in the middle of no where.

i thought it was awesome. above and beyond what i was expecting. i am very happy that i had set my VCR to record it before i left the house today. i ended up watching @ TSi350SS's house and i'm in the middle of watching it again now.
i do agree that this is not a proper depiction of what rally is all about...but a lot of events that have been featured in the Xgames in the past have been similar. snowboarding is not all about boardercross, or simply going into a halfpipe...skateboarding is not all about halfpipes and who can pull off the highest jump or best trick and this goes for almost all of the featured events ever for the Xgames.
the good thing is that at the beginning of the event they did that little snippit montage of what rally ACTUALLY is and they simply labeled the event as Rally Super-Special which i guess really only means something to people who follow rally but i think if people are intrigued enough to look into the sport more, they'll be happy cuz' in all rally as a whole is more facinating and exciting than just a few 3 minute runs on a man-made course.

I have yet to watch the actual footage, but i got the press release from ESPN. I saw a few snap shots on my neighbor's camera that went up there today (random) The jump looked awesome! huge!
They had a lot of questions about what rally is really about. I had to explain that this what a super special stage is, inside the stadium and that spectating regular rally stages is much different since they go for miles at a time and you see only one porition of each stage..
they were stoked on it though. So thats what counts... cant wait to see it all.

Yea i agree with you about its name, but its neat to see it and allows a somewhat different crowd to be introduced to the sport somewhat. It was like RallyX on steroids.

so....L'Estage and Iorio didn't compete?

The TV coverage didn't show the first round of competition in which Iorio, L'Estage, Morio, and Said were eliminated.
Also didn't show the Pastrana/Lagamann show down for the bronze (McRae's STI couldn't continue due to the damage suffered in the roll).
All in all, not bad. It's not rally in the pure sense, but still entertaining non the less.

There is a lot of controversy about this, "this isn't rally" "this is just rallycross" etc etc. Honestly I was entertained by it. At first I was disappointed by the presentation of it, but then I came to terms that it is the x-games, and the crowd was loving every second of it. My only concern is what the public viewers might now think of rally... There won't be huge jumps like that on stage, and you don't normally see vehicles crashing into each other... although I did find that entertaining. nice work pastrana!!! :D
I'm sure this has sparked interest in those who were curious about rally, and hopefully even those that have never heard of rally. I'm excited to see how this will evolve going into next year.

Single elimination rounds. Lagamann won the first round (not broadcast) and went up against McRae in the Second Round.
Lagamann's car went into limp mode due to a faulty fan switch and he bailed out of the jump (very wise move) handing the win to McRae.
Third Round, McRae rolled the car and got hung up on the hydro barriers sending Block to the Gold medal round.
Rules stated that if you could not take the start of your next heat, the person you beat in the prior round would take your place. McRae could not take the start because of the damage to the windshield caused by the roll (they did not have another windshield at the designated service area - rules = you had to have all spares present at the start of the event and could not share parts with other competitors), so Ramana got the call to go up against Pastrana for the Bronze.
The TV coverage did not show the first round of competition and did not show the last race for the bronze between Pastrana and Lagamann.
As for the amount of carnage, some of the comments that have come out from the drivers basically said that every single one of them was leaving nothing on the table and drove the wheels off (sometimes literally) the cars. Yes, it is not a traditional rally, but it was still an entertaining event anyway.

If a factory team driver gets a chance to abuse the hell out of the car, then that makes for some awesome spectating. The amount of line up changes due to mechanical failure, driver ability, and even an DQ was super exciting.
The event was good for the exposure of our favorite kind of racing, and even though its not necessarily representative of how all the other events are done, i know everyone that went was stoked on it. I hope that X Games continues to keep Rally on their list of events, its great exposure for the Rally America series... and subies in general!
