First off, thank you everyone for your continued support during these technical problems. I would consider this problem with the forums the straw that broke the camels back.

First, I am currently investigating moving to a new webhosting provider and think i have found one already. They are very competitive in price and have way more space and transfer available.

Secondly, we're going to upgrade to vBulletin as our forum software since it is pretty much the industry standard and is much more flexible and stable than phpbb. Ill have to figure out a way to replicate the look and feel of the curent layout, but moving forward, i think this is a good decision.

So what does this all mean? Well all those stickers you guys ordered and what few (sniff sniff) donations I've received will be put towards buying the hosting and software (thanks goes out to GrimmSpeed for covering the hosting costs).

Ill keep everyone informed about the planned downtime. It won't be for a bit as there are a lot of details that need to be sorted out first.

So things are moving along quicker than i thought. Were moving to a dedicated server! (A friend of mine has a server that is hardly utilized and offered us a spot on it) So basically we get 10 redundant T1's and a 4 processor Quadcore Intel server for slightly more per month than what i was paying with our shi*tty web host.

A no brainer. Expect some downtime in the coming days to get this all dialed in. Its going to be awesome. The forums are going to be lightning quick.

Awesome!!! The forums have always been slow here, I can't wait for them to be smooth as silk.

Dood, they are going to rip after this move... 4 quad core xeon processors... thats straight overkill for DI, fricking awesome.

If everything goes well, i wont be switching over to vBulletin right at the switch, because id like to develop it a bit first and do testing...

phpbb may stick around for a while if i can get it to work normally...

Will you be able to move all the old threads into the new bulletin boards? It would suck if you lost all of that, would be like starting over.

when you change BB you normally lose all the information.... everyone would have to reregister... i do not know if there are database converters out there or not... but thats how it has worked on EVERY forum I was ever on that changed...

I like Simple Machine Forums BTW.. they are free and work quite well... Im not really a big fan of VBB

NO we will not lose posts / user accounts. vBulletin supports a phpbb > vB migration...

Also I have decided that we will not move directly over to vBulletin immediately... if all goes well we might not have to do that right away :)
