View Full Version : How my 02 became an 06, kind of...

Here is my pictoral (is that a word?) and brief post of my 02 WRX wagon that WAS 100% bone stock and was sporting original factory paint after 231,000 miles of highway life. This car is my company car and my baby. I am blessed to work in a great indy Subaru shop. I go to auctions all over the northeast and buy pre-owned Subies for a living. The cars are my choice, it's not my money, maybe the best job on the planet! Last week I slid on black ice and bruised the battlewagon. It didn't look good and I thought my love affair with this car was over. To make a long story short, the owner was aware of my affection towards the company car he bought me and happened to only have an 06 Outback Sport wagon in stock that was hit in the rear. One thing led to another and here we are. The car is in the paint shop now and I will post fresh paint when I can. Hope you like, I am still on the fence. I am on the hunt for a hood with a scoop and I am learning that they are not easy to come by.

She came back from the paint shop earlier than expected and it came out awesome! I think I am going to relocate the intercooler because the flat hood is growing on me.

Gives the bugeye a fresh look. If you plan on keeping the stock turbo on the car do yourself a favor and find a hood with a scoop. FMIC + TD04 isn't the best option.

I'd keep it stock and just find a WRX hood
what's up with the silver grille!
and black out the headlights ftw

The silver grille bugs me too. The donor car was an outback sport wagon and they have chrome grilles. I think I am going to flat black them soon. I also changed back over to my WRX wheels, the GT wheels in the pictures were just temporary so I could run my snow treads on the GT I borrowed while the work was being done.

That looks great!! I do like that front end. The paint looks fantastic too, congrats on getting it back so soon!
And yes... get a WRX hood ASAP. No airflow to the IC = less power and an unhappy car.

^2nd I was looking at that and saying hmm that can't be good for the engine or car but otherwise it looks great, everthought about a scoop deleted hood.
Maybe try to fab that hood or buy one chance to add another unique bit to it?

Haha, I know someone on here who intends to do the exact opposite! His 06/07 WRX wagon front end is a little bashed up and he's talking about grafting on a bugeye front.

actually to common belief it is not that bad.
i am running the stock TD04-13T with the Injen FMIC kit. full boost at 3000 rpm and top end like a mother ****er! I am also running Bosal DW Downpipe, Helix up pipe, gutted midpipe, Custom 3" CBE and Protune. the FMIC setup is not bad at all.

I've actually been meaning to ask... Carbuyah, do you have any details on what changes were required to wire up the 06/07 headlights to your 02/03 harness? I'll have to do the opposite here sometime soon and I haven't even started to look at the wiring diagrams to see if there are any differences (aside from the obvious connector differences).
