that it's not worth going to the local subie/awd meets anymore. I was just having a regular intelligent conversion with some of the guys and someone makes a comment about one of the guy's bumper being held on by zip ties. I say thats the way to do it, and the jerk of the crowd just has to pipe in and make a comment on my car cause of it. Saying something about my car being new or some crap. This guy is giving me crap for a car that looks stock, but with a completely different suspension. This guy is afraid to take his off road and only has about has much money in his as I have in mine. His may be more noticeable, but when you spend a butt load on coilovers and other suspension parts vs exhaust, vinyl and a carbon fiber hood, it's not gonna be as noticeable. I've gotten more paint scratches etc on my car in 1 weekend of off roading that he has in 2 years of owning his car. This same guy has driven other cool people away that are knowledgeable. I can safely say I am not gonna bother with the local subie groups anymore, I'll stick to friends and people like us here who like to get dirty.
BTW, Aaron thanks for the greatest forum on the internet :D. I should say I hate you, I spend way too much time on here now. I even spend time on here at work, where I'm not supposed to be on here. :FU:

Seb, yeah... i don't know if you read my member's introduction from a few weeks ago, but its your experience right there that i had over and over again, so i know what you mean.
Its just something to not get frustrated about since there is nothing you can do. The ricer fanboy crowd will always strive to be the most "hey look at me" group on the road, but its irrelevant to the hardcore suby enthusiast. The guys that spend more time actually researching their aftermarket parts for function, performance and value are going to be the ones on top in the end.
That sucks that your local meet experience was a negative one, theres always seems to be "that guy" that shows up. But no worries, DirtyImpreza is here for the people who love their Imprezas (and other subies) for what they are, not so much what other people see them as.

LOL, I just had to vent last night about it. It was just sickening to listen to and his bs made some of the cool people stop coming.

yeah, I don't post on NASIOC for this same issue (but magnified 100x cause its over the web), nor am i remotely interested in meeting anyone at the local donut shop meets...I guess that's where they meet around here, one of the local krispy kreme's.
anyway, it would just drive me nuts to hear about guys and their BOV's, CAIs (even though I have one) and carbon fiber shift knobs. I know that sounds snobby, and I'm sure there's plenty of legit cars there...but if that one guy was commenting about zip ties holding up a bumper, I wonder what they'd say about my rear bumper, haha.
Maybe I'll go to one after my turbo upgrade, and then race some punk kid with a new STI for pinks and get a new car.

City Car clubs that meet ONLY @ night NORMALLY do suck... I have been to several different ones, they normally turn into streetracing, and then people take over who are "un-knowledgeable"and are asses til everyone leaves except the people they like...
Hence, I decided they all suck, unless they actually are people from sanctioned motorsports having a get together/dinner...

I've been hesitant to go to a local club/meet-up (but unable to find one too terribly close) for this very reason. I go offroading with my husband (he drives his Wrangler) and get some weird looks in my little red subie, not sure if it's the female factor or the fact that it's a little wagon  I have fun. That's all I care about. I'd like to find some local subie freaks to hang out with, but that'll come. My husband made the comment to me that I research parts and such too much, but I'd rather know what the hell I'm getting/getting into and do it right the first time. NASIOC sucks. I learned some things from what I read there, but my first post was replied to with wise ass cracks and such and I thought forget it. So once again, Aaron, thanks for delivering a wonderful place for true enthusiasts, no matter what our knowledge or skill level. I have yet to visit at work, but I'm in Purchasing, I'll just say we need some dirty sports cars (I work for an educational institution)

I can totally picture you following the Wrangler in the dirt with your wagon! so awesome! Indeed at dirtymeet1 we got a LOT of strange looks from huge lifted truck guys / moto guys / and quad guys when we rolled to the dry lake with 18 cars...
Yeah its funny, (or not so funny) how most night meets turn into total jockfests and street racing showoffs. I'd have to agree that the best "meets" are usually when guys and gals that compete together kick back (i had a lot of fun at Jon's pre rallycross BBQ the other month).
NASIOC, love it or hate it is a huge force in the subaru enthusiast world. Its a shame that 99% of legitimate posts get mad dogged by punk kids that have nothing better to do than heckle people on the internet. Stick to some of the smaller forums for more useful information. Were just going to have to accept that were a very niche demographic in the automotive world (offroad subie / impreza owners!)
Keep it real here!

Scarlet, if you haven't already, check out www.cobbforums.com Cobb is a great suby company (www.cobbtuning.com) and their regular forum members (I'm one of them, my screen name is there same on there) are very knowledgeable and much nicer. There's definitely a bunch of folks on that forum in the PA area.

Thank you both, and frankly all, for the honesty! I've been on cobbtuning.com but not to the forums.. I might pop in for a sec tonight and take a look around. I'm so disgustingly in love with my car  and so very hungry for info and with info comes stupid questions. If I feel safe, I'll ask them and learn all the more. I have a nasty habit of well addiction and um obsession and as I age, well, I've veered into the lane of the Subaru. I think I'm done for! Oh well, I've had much worse addictions in my past! This one may very well prove to be more expensive though!

Was this by chance AWJunkies? Cause I've noticed they condemn streeti racing on their forums, yet they have videos that show that they do. They also say they wanna try rallyx and the like and don't go.

o man would you guys love our canyon runs. My buddy jaron has dubbed them "ridding the world of state street racers on canyon run at a time.....ask us how?" We love to invite out the "IHOP racers" and they talk **** up and down because my buddy drives a GC8 na (cobb stage 3 super motor) and they just put a sti stock turbo on his wrx and thinks he is so much faster than him. So far two of them have ended up 25 feet down the side of the canyon upside down because when the road turns they forget how to drive. I think a car was made to turn not go straight for a 1/4 mile.
Not to mention when we have been on there ass the whole way up the canyon, pass them on a straight like they are standing still....only to see them stop and turn around before the top because they got beat by a 1999 GC8 NA. It brings joys unmentionable! We seriously had some guys show up and say lets go to ihop so we can decide where to go........we all stood silent and a min latter he was all "or not we could just go up....." O ya O forgot I bought a nice fast car to sit and talk about where I could maybe drive it slow.......gesh.
my favorite is when I show up in my bone stock mazda 3i 2.0 automatic and slay them on the dirt canyon and autox.
its all about the real drivers, not the damn carbon shift nob bs.

That and it's always fun to beat someone with a car with a lot less potential all cause of the difference in driving skill.
