I have searched everywhere, and cannot find the stock spring rate for my 2007 2.5i WAGON. Does anyone know what it is or where I can find it? I would like to find a direct comparison to a stock WRX of a similar year (2007 to be exact).

I also would like to know the differences between the 2.5i, and the wrx struts as far as dampening is concerned. Are they night and day different, or close?

I have thought about purchasing some stock WRX springs and trying them out for a while. I also have access to some Stock STI springs as well. Any input would be appreciated.

I want it firm, but functional. Not looking for drop springs either.

You can email SoA to get the exact rates. If you do, post the answer here.

The difference in damping rates between 2.5i and WRX will be the same as the difference in spring rates. So once you get your spring rates from SoA, you'll be able to calculate the difference in damping. They're going to be significantly different since Subaru significantly softened the suspension when the RS became the i.

Between the RS, WRX, and STi springs, go with the STi springs. They'll give you the best performance with the least drop. You will need upgraded struts for them.

I have been on the nasioc also. I have read most all of the stickys and such. Especially the suspension ones. On their forum all that is says about the springs/struts is that they will work, and that the STI springs work "well". But they didn't ever give any specifics. It seems that everyone on nasioc is more into just lowering their cars, and not so much into performance.
I have posted there also and get conflicting information all of the time.

Some people have said that the STI springs will be fine on my stock struts, but shorten their life slightly.

I will keep searching, and e-mail Subaru of America also.

Thanks for sharing the link!

Sigh.....you just need to look a little harder.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=695688

It says stock spring rate for GD 2.5RS (same as far as I know) is:

F= 149 lbs/in
R= 117 lbs/in

For what it's worth, the spring rates could have changed from the RS to the i, but at least it get's you in the ball park. I also see you have a wagon, so your rear rates are prob a little higher than 117 lbs/in

I also say go with the STI springs and upgraded struts, its a very good combo.

Thanks for all of the feedback, and the links.
I didn't know if the RS, and the i were the same either, but that does get me in the ballpark.

The marketing literature says the 2.5RS and 2.5i do not have the same suspension. Wither or not that's true, who knows. Email SoA about it.

I just emailed the technical contact at SoA to get the rates for the 06, 07, and 08 2.5i sedans and wagons.

Interesting. According to www.cars101.com (http://www.cars101.com), it was just a name change from RS to i starting in 2006. But cars101 has been known to be wrong before. I am now curious to see what the true spring rates are.

I am wondering what the stock spring rates are for my 2007 2.5i wagon? Also what are the spring rates on a 2007 WRX? I seem to get conflicting information from all of my internet searches. Please help. Thanks, Travis

This is all I got:

Hello Ty:

Thank you for your patience. The only information that I was able to obtain was the spring rates for the OEM springs on the 2008 and 2009 Impreza 2.5i models, which is:

F: 25 N/mm 143 lb/in
R: 24 N/mm 137 lb/in

Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Several years ago, I emailed the same guy and got:
Dear Mr. Williams:

Thank you for visiting the Subaru Web site and for your request. The stock spring rates are:

2005 WRX STI Sedan - 39.2/34.0 mm (front/rear) (that's 224/194lbf/in)
2005 Impreza 2.5RS Sport Wagon - 26.0/21.0 mm (front/rear) (that's 148/120lbf/in)

Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance. If you need any future assistance, please let us know.

Best wishes,

I as well have a 2007 Imprezza Wagon . I swapped the struts for WRX Sedan units with a guy that was buying coil overs and I also bought his rear sway bar when he was upgrading . The difference in handling is huge especially on gravel . All the understeer in gone and it turns like a dream . My cost on the upgrade was $450 , it was just an afternoon to switch all the parts and it was the best investment I have made .

90% of the difference is the rear way.
