Well lately I've decided to start a build-up for the current zx2 into a stage prepped rally car. I'm gonna be searching for a new car hopefully a 95L subaru...I'll be starting some tear down within a few weeks maybe few months. Hope this works out. If it does later (2-3yrs) I'll build the L or possibly a 2.5RS...that will be to decided through time and effort. Hope this works out.

So the L is going to be a daily driver? why not build the Subaru into the rally car and leave the Zx2 for daily driving duties? :muhaha:

I wanna start in a 2wd class first. My thought is to get AS MUCH seat time as possible. I'm still young so the Zx2 should last me at least two or three years. Then when I do have a nice rap sheet for rally I'll move up to 4wd. Plus I want to get used to the 95L or whatever Subaru I buy for a bit so I can know its limits and such THEN build it. And plus this is still just a thought for build-up and may not be my final decision. Sh33t happens these days and things change pretty quickly. You never know I might buy an RS2.5 and build it. But I quite don't know yet so just wish me luck and things will go accordingly.

Yes it can, even an STi or WRX country dependent of course!

Why the zx2?
Are you going to be able to get rally specific stuff like diffs, suspension etc... ?

I'm not sure but I do know that there have been a few Zx2 rally car teams and I've seen they used pretty simple parts. I can't remember watch suspension setup one had but it was like a $1000 set-up but it was pretty nice. And to answer 'why?' It's just something I want to do. I want to be more diverse from other vehicles. Plus I love my Zx2 on the dirt. But as stated earlier quoting Aaron...Things change so you never know what I may or may not do. Just wait a few months and you will probably see what I'm gonna do.

I would suggest sticking to something proven for rally, like a golf. You will have all the knowledge in minutes, find spares for cheap on forums and at the junkyard, and wont have to worry about bringing every spare to the event as there will be more than one at almost every event. I am sure others as well will suggest you to buy your first car as it will be cheaper and you will get out there sooner. I bought my pre built gti that needed updates for under 3k buy the time i was ready to rally it cost me nearly double that. Thats without paying for tires as a friend handed me a brand new set of six for free. I spent another couple thousand after that since i installed a diff, final drive a 2lt motor etc...
Before starting the project i would suggest you write out a spread sheet with researched prices on at least the basics(necessities) like; cage, seats, belts, tires, suspension, brake pads, intercoms, rally computer, safety gear (helmet, suit possibly hans device) and then another spread sheet on things like better suspension, diffs, final drives and you will understand why everyone rallying will suggest you buy built instead. Even without the safety gear it will cost you more to build than to buy a car like mine.
