View Full Version : Sub Frame Bolts?

Okay, I don't know tons about my precious Rex or RallyX rules, bad me, so, if I install the whitelines Sub-frame lock bolts, is that "legal" for prep'd or would that bump me to Mod, and does the car even have a sub-frame brace? Any insight would help.

Your car has two subframes. One up front that is black and shaped like a square "C". The other is at the rear to which part of the rear suspension is bolted.

The Whiteline subframe locking bolt kit is designed to be installed, one on either side, of the rear subframe, between the two factory front & aft bolts that are on either side.

Do not leave these bolts in on a permanent basis. They should be installed on a temporary basis generally for motorsports and not daily driving.

Be aware that you may have to loosen slightly the four factory bolts that hold the rear subframe in place to install the locking bolt kit. This could throw your rear alignment off in terms of thrust angle and toe.

Also to be clear, if you read the rules regarding autocross, you will see a section that describes subframe connectors. Don't confuse these with the front or rear subframe assemblies that came with the car. Subframe connectors are installed, laterally, meaning front to rear, to tie the front subframe to the rear subframe thus in effect creating a "full frame".

The locking bolts should not bump you into another class/bracket as long as they are not viewed as being a solid metal bushing. You cannot install solid metal bushings. With the locking bolts you are not adding a new mounting point because it already exists. You are not relocating the subframe to a new position. Thus you are not modifying the rear subframe assembly itself and this should be fine.

They should not bump you up a class, but make sure to read the rules regarding RallyCross and not autocross. ;-)

Whiteline had a "White Paper" which is generally a formal release for general viewing that basically stated that if you leave the subframe locking bolts in place, other than the possibility in the increase in NVH, that the other factory bushings/mounting points and/or suspension to subframe mounting points may begin to wear more quickly and fail prematurely.

I've been trying to find it. Don't take what I've written above as absolute or that the car will explode if you leave the locking bolts in place, if you know what I mean.

In short, Whiteline does not recommend leaving the rear subframe locking bolts in place during/for routine daily driving.

Ask or do other searches on other forums and you may find others that say to leave the bolts in place. I'm only going on what Whiteline recommends and hopefully have restated this as best and accurately as I have been able to recall.

Rallycross / Autocross. I've done some autocross and not rallycross. Not yet at least. Tryin' to keep up with the pack!

Had mine in for 2.5 years, 70k on my wagon. and 2 years of Rally-x on it.
Every thing seems to be in order;-)

I broke one... (it can be done)

I left mine in all the time.... And I Broke one... LOL... if you take em out, you may not break them :P

EDIT: But.. most people dont drive like me, so they probably wont break on you....

EDIT: But.. most people dont drive like me, so they probably wont break on you....

not everybody gets to have a rallyX track in their backyard.

(im getting ready to buy a house and my wife seriously thinks its ridiculous that having a backyard big enough to rallyX in is high on the list of priorities :lol2: )

I used to live on 4 acres with a 1/4 mile long course cut into one of the back pastures. I moved to a suburban neighborhood a while ago and man do I miss it.

SO from what I'm getting, its pretty much 50/50 leave them in/only races. think I migh have to get a feel for them my self to see. But it seem that as long as I don't drive like BlackParis I should be good. I'll have to see.
