ANYWAYS...
This will become a 2wd rally-car project... shes got 170kmiles
First off, I drove it 2 days, and the low coolant light came on.. Filled it up.. and it was still low... Checked the oil dipstick, and found all my coolant :pissed: So... Head-gaskets, and head cracks, are a common thing on these cars... I IMMEDIATELY ordered new head-gasket set and bolts...
Currently, I have owned the car for one week... Drove it 2 days, Sat in me garage for 5days.. Have the head all apart, I did not NOTICE any visible cracks, just waiting for the Gasket set to come from Cali... SHOULD be here tuesday or so, then car will be together Turkey day! :eek: If No problems occur during re-install...
Now, as far as plans go: 5/16in Aluminum Front skidplate, 1/4in HDPE sheets back to the Trailing arms, install some HIGHER springs, possible Longer truck shocks in rear... then need to pick up a set of 15inch rims, and Rally Tyres.
As far as Info on the springs... What I have learned soo far:
BMW e36 chassis:
Front Motion Ratio - .94
Rear Spring Motion Ratio - .67
Rear Shock Motion Ratio - 1.05
WheelRate = SpringRate * (MotionRatio)^2
To calculate Front wheel rates: SpringRate*(.88 )
To calculate Rear wheel rates: SpringRate*(.44 )
Esentially, For me looking to acheive a 200-250lb/in wheelrate, I need:
Front : ~275 lb/in
Rear : ~550 lb/in
Lengths are not determined yet... Getting info for rally out of BMW guys is HARD... Its like pulling teeth, they know the answers, but they dont like my intentions! I MAY, just have to go outside and MEASURE some lengths...
Thats all I have for NOW!
