Fricking DMV... i just paid my registration in CA today, and it was $187. So this month its like paying a car payment and a half.
Sucks... but i guess you gotta pay to play.

mine was cheaper, I think.....something like $160 or so, but not much cheaper. That included my vanity plate fee.

Thanks to your post, I just called to see what my excise tax/registration cost is going to be. $588 excise tax + $25 plate fee + $20 specialty plate fee (University of Maine System plates) + $4 agent fee =
$637.
With that kind of cabbage, should I spend an extra $15 for a vanity plate? I can't think of anything cool, and with the UMS plates, I only have five characters' worth of space.

Nope, they can't, I'm military and not a California state resident, I'm a resident of Virginia. :FU:

if you claim yourself from out of state i think you're fine, i think it's when you plan to stay you have to register it here if not you can get in trouble. i guess as long as you stay a VA resident and claim you're visiting... i thnk you're fine. just dont get caught by the same cop the same month

LOL, it doesn't matter how long I'm here, the DHS sticker on my car allows to me to keep it registered in VA. Federal regs allow me to live in the state I'm stationed at and keep residency in another state, and there's nothing a cop or the state can do about it. I don't pay CA state taxes, register anything in CA etc, even if I buy a house here. Thems the perks of being in the military.
