No, I'm not looking for money, hehe!
So - I'm in a rare (to me, anyway) position...I know what car I'm going to buy a full month before I take delivery. Gonna be the proud owner of an Urban Silver '07 WRX Wagon.
What I don't know is what sort of options/accessories I should pop for. There's a little wiggle room in the budget, and I want to make sure I get stuff that makes sense to have from day one. For example, I'll spend the $40 on a rear bumper cover for the top of the rear bumper. Yes, this wagon will get groceries occasionally...it'll also spend a lot of time camping/hauling crap around in the boot, so I don't want to scratch the paint.
So - what options/accessories do you wish you had bought with the vehicle, and why?
Thanks in advance for any insight and advice :)

Save all the money on the extras and get a Cobb AccessPort!
LOL naw but really, im not even sure what the factory options are on a new wagon. I ended up getting a cargo net from subarugenuineparts.com for my impreza and i love it! I didnt get many factory options with my 04 STi, since they came pretty much stripped down.

if i had to guess, i'd say they are offering the yakima loadwarrior again for a cargo rack. i jump on one of those if you're gonna be camping/hauling. it never hurts to have some extra storage. i think through subaru, they're like $255 where as if you buy aftermarket you're lookin at $300+.
i suppose you may want to consider any other recreational activities you're into...
perhaps a trailer hitch? bike rack?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a tow hitch installed...I live literally 15 minutes from LLBean (plus my mom works there, so a nice discount), so I may get a hitch-mounted bike rack from there.
Load Warrior - that's the flat wire-mesh bastige that hooks into the tow hitch for additional outside flat storage?

nope....it's a 39" wide 44" long cargo basket that mounts on your roofracks (or aftermarket crossbars) that holds lot's'o'**** and looks cool at the same time

Nice looking ride - and nice rack (sorry, had to do it). Anyway, that looks like a sturdy spot for lights...how does that setup impact your mpg?
Also - a quick note - I chose NOT to get a black wagon so that the intakes would contrast with the body color. When I'm behind someone, I want them to see a big scoop with absolute clarity :O)

My 06 came with the "popular package 2" ...Stupid arm rest extension, cargo net and cargo mat. The net and mat are awsome but the arm rest ext. came off within hours of purchase and now I need to find a stock console lid....imo the auto dim mirror is cool, I think the rear bumper cover is a good idea but didnt like the looks...

thanx for the compliments, but that's not my car. that's just a pic i found while doing research for what my car would look similar too with such a large cargo rack.
as for mpg, since i've had my rack on the roof (i own a Thule M.O.A.B. same dimensions) i haven't noticed a drop in gas mileage. driving with the fairing off, it was really noisy and with it on, almost no noise at all. the fairing helps a lot. you know when i good gust of wind blows on the highway though...
i'd bet that having the lights mounted on top of the rack like in that picture affects the noise and gas mileage, but when i mount my lights, i'm making brackets that will protrude from beneath the fairing and hold the lights directly in front of the rack instead of on top of it. i think this will look much cleaner and have much less effect on mpg.

If i had bought my girl new i would have gotten the rear diff. protector. Its not thick but it gets the job done.

Yeah, Bean's sells the MOAB...my cost on it would be 207 or so.
Re: the armrest extension - I was actually thinking of buying one, as the center armrest seems super low. How does it connect, and what made it separate from the home God intended for it?

ARRRG!!!! That thing got in the way of every shift, bouncing off your elbow and it was hard...good idea for more storage, it was just too large. I guess if you are getting an auto it wont be a big deal....I still have mine in my closet somewhere so if you dont get one with your car I will have no problem sending you mine....a gift from one DI member to another :D

I'm getting a manual trans (heh, auto...) - thinking about highway trips and all, I might just take you up on that offer, so long as you let me pay for shipping costs plus the cost of a sixer of Sam Adams.
Do you think it would interfere as much if I were to, say, equip the 'getter with a short shift setup?

yeah the arm rest extension sucks. Dont get it.
The rack option would be cool. I have a set of Yakima's but i dont like how they clip into the doors.

06drtywgn - how does it attach to the stock armrest?

i have the arm rest extension and factory ss kit and it doesn't bother me, at least not after driving with it for the past several years.
I would get that filter option too...the hepta one for the dashboard fans.
Rear diff option is good.....so is the cargo net option.
Stock stereo sucks, so unless you have aftermarket plans for that, its worth it.
yakima makes a nice low profile basket too, this is my car with my thule rack with yakima basket, 1 bike rack, 2 vertical ski racks, and KC high beams...its not a wagon, but you get the point. looks cool

I also like the name "SPACE BOOSTER" because it looks like the booster rockets on the space shuttle. :)

06drtywgn - how does it attach to the stock armrest?
it just replaces the stock lid. You get about twice the storage than the stock console.
