whats up everyone long time since ive posted. been real busy driving the subbies insead of talking about them but im back. anyway i just cooked the stock turbo on the 04 wrx. time to upgrade to a bigger one:headbang: ive choosen the ihi vf43 (07 sti turbo) and i know its a drop in operation or so everyone says but i have a few concerns... like first off will i need to throw some bigger injectors in there. ive done injectors before and they are a pain in the ass and it is my daily driver so it cant be in the shop for long. second will my wrx intercooler and bypass valve hold up when i throw in the bigger snail. i am going to run higher than stock boost because my goal is high 200 low 300 horsepower. and to save questions later my mods on it so far are header up pipe downpipe and catback.

Yes, you need bigger injectors (and fuel pump too maybe, I don't quite know about that one) Especially if you are going to be running anything over 15PSI boost, witch I know you will. :muhaha: You will also want to upgrade to a stock STI TMIC and stock STI BOV or better.

i will have to look into it more. a guy that i met at random because he was selling his 97 rs has a vf34 and he is doing stock injectors and stock tmic, but then again that could lead to problems ahead. but thanks for the info.

Search over on NASIOC, the people are lame for the most part, but there is TONS of good technical info over there.

Yes, you will need bigger injectors and an upgraded fuel pump on the '04 WRX. Look for "STi pink" injectors you should be able to get a good deal on used ones. Just get them cleaned...

For that set up to work properly, you should should upgrade injectors to 565cc or 650cc (STi pinks, Deatschworks), a walbro 255 pump, a bigger IC, and proper management (Accessport V2, open source).

Your car will need to be remapped to optimize the set up, otherwise you'll be dissapointed with the power. After a tune with a set up like that, you should be able to push +-280whp/wtq running high teens boost (16-18psi) pretty easily.

We just built an '05 WRX wagon w/ a TD05/16g (similar spool to the vf43), 650cc inj, walbro, and big TMIC and it made 291whp/274wtq @ 18psi with a good tune. That was +-100whp/80wtq more than when it hit the dyno with an off the shelf AP map.. That's also about 120+ whp/wtq more than stock.

All of these newer ('02 up) turbo cars need to be tuned to optimize the set up, you can't just "bolt it on" and get the gains you are after..:)

We can help get you set up if you haven't found all of your parts yet.

bump from the past

I'm getting ready to throw one of these in my 04 wrx with all the mentioned parts to support it, I was reading on the cobb forum that with an 06 wrx you have to get a different restrictor pill. I can't find anything else on this anywhere. Anyone know if this is the case for the 04??

if you bought the turbo with the vacuum tubes on it the restirctor pill should already be there that you need. you should be fine. otherwise call cobb up and they will sale you one for like 5 bucks shipped. thats what i did in my 07 when I was spiking boost.
