I picked up a 5MT from a 99 LGT, what clutch do I need to get? will an EJ20 Clutch fit on an EJ25 flywheel?

I am probably going to keep it stock, since I am cheap, and I would rather burn up clutches than break transmissions....

Thanx!

I have no clue what clutch you need, but nice to see someone else doing this swap. When are you getting it done?

Dunno when, I need to find all the parts within my price range... Got the tranny wit no second gear for 100$ ;) So I will be fixing that first, then swapping everything else in....

I refuse to drive my car in the winter , so it will get done before next season fo' sure

Manual FTW!

Ive never pulled a transmission before, so i would assume its quite a project to do the swap. Good luck to ya Paris.. keep us posted on the progress...

I love to drive my car in the winter. It is so nice in snow. Of course I had an Accord before this car. It was the worst car in the snow ever.

As far as pulling a transmission, I have done it three times on my car. It isn't the most fun I have ever had.

I agree. Hondas suck ass in the snow. I had an 00 Si for several years, and it was so low i couldnt get chains on it either! Totally unsafe.

Nice score on the tranny. I can't imagine that it will be fun, but the end result will be worth it. I'm hoping to swap out for a mt down the road (my only regret with this car). I used to work for a transmission wholesaler. I am not an expert by any means, but I'd be surprised if that clutch and flywheel were compatible.. I'll see if I can find anything. Keep us posted on your progress!

I'm not sure how helpful these links will be, but here's a few...

"Dual Mass Flywheels
Dual mass flywheels have been used on EJ20 and EJ25 engines since about 1998. They are made by Valeo, and use a unique clutch Valeo clutch. The Subaru part number of the flywheel is 12345AA002. These give the ultimate in torsional vibration damping. Dual mass flywheel are effectively two flywheels with a damping element in between. ... "

"There are two main types of clutch used on Subaru’s – the conventional ‘push to release’ clutches used on all naturally aspirated Subaru’s, and the ‘pull to release’ clutches used on turbo Subaru’s. See the web site of Subaru’s OEM clutch manufacturer, Daikin, for an excellent explanation of the differences between the two types of clutch (and lots of other useful clutch information). Both types can be used with an RJES bellhousing, but a different kit is required for each, as the clutch release mechanisms work differently.

There are two types of push clutch, which are not compatible with each others’ flywheel– the single mass and dual mass flywheel versions...."

Thanx Scarlet, but I had already found most of those posts on Nasioc and RS25, but didnt really find them helpful, I knew that STis have different trannies all together...

So I guess I'll look and wait for a cheap ej25 clutch... I was only interested because EJ20 Clutches are a dime a dozen ;)

Sorry it wasn't more helpful. I figured you'd seen most, but I was frustrated, it didn't seem like I could find a straight answer. I got some education along the search though, so it all works out! Best of luck.

I have had three Hondas.. yea I know I am sorry to :-) and with a set of Blizzaks I have not had any problems... not to mention I grew up in New England where 3 feet is normal.. not here where we get a foot and everything shuts down... well except for parking lots and a bunch of guys that I auto cross with :-)

I know of a few trans places here in WI but nothing in your area. NAPA or Checker may have a rebuild kit for $200 or some ware around that.

Theres a shop in your general area (East Coast) called 3SXPerformance (website is www.wrxevolution.com) they might be able to help you out. Also, contact LIC Motorsports in Novato, CA. They are doing my swap and are VERY informative.
