i got a light crank pulley that im tryin to throw on my obs before i head back over the pass, but im running into a problem with trying to loosen the bolt holding the stock pulley on. my car is an automatic so i cant put it in 5th like ive read. so what im asking is how can i stop the crank from moving so i can loosen the bolt?
thanks

Impact tools are always the easiest, but that's not so easy going after the pulley in our cars. Does park not work? If not then toss it in drive and get someone to stand on the brake pedal with the parking break on.

i tried all those tricks, still turned. so i stopped by shucks with my dad and talked to a guy he knows, he had a little trick that actually worked.
what you do is take out a plug and spin the piston around so its at the bottom. then drop some rope (i used bungee cord because it was more rigid and fed better) into the cylinder. so when you turn the bolt on the pulley eventually it will try to compress the rope but cant, so then you can use a cheater bar and loosen the bolt. worked very well for me. got it all back together and everything works great :D

with the end of the breaker bar resting against teh body near the battery side and the socket on the crank bolt, just touch the key enough to turn the engine. that's what I did.

edit: never mind. glad your way worked

i thought about doing that, but i was afraid i would go too far and mess something up

It makes me cringe to even think about bumping the starter...
