View Full Version : Keep headliner or not? Installing roll cage and roof vent...

I am installing an autopower 6 pt roll cage in my car this weekend with a roof vent, like Subaru's WRC cars use, not the spec-c, and am debating keeping or taking out the headliner for good. I think it would be a PITA cutting the headliner to fit the vent. Aside from that, I'm starting to rally now so my car is now a weekend warrior aside from weekday traveler. Any positives or negatives to keeping/removing the headliner?

Will be loud without the headliner, especially in the rain.

If you don't mind a little extra noise, just take it out. It's really not all that bad without it.
There is negligible weight savings with the headliner however.

Also of note is the safety factor.. the headliner is cusion. Please use the good padding on your cage as well. ;)

Also of note is that Autopower makes that cage so it clears all of the normal interior like the headliner. If you remove that headliner the Autopower cage might look a little small. :-(

My headliner is out and its not going back. So if anyone needs the little trip pieces from the RA vent (that matches the headliner) ill have it available for whoever wants it.

I agree though, the Autopower cage might look funny if the headliner is not in and its designed to clear it...

I've been considering just pulling my entire interior lately...its gonna hapen soon enough anyway. I still need to learn to weld first...<sigh>, so much to do, so little money.

I'm going to look tomorrow and see how the fitment is with the headliner in. If it is snug then I may remove the headliner. thanks for the responses guys
