I've been looking at headers and exhaust systems for the turtle. For the most part I'm only finding 2.5 headers. however, I occasionally see one that is said to work on both 2.5 and 2.2 (the later of which is what I have). My question is will 2.5 headers fit and if not does anyone know of any companies making performance headers for the 2.2 subies?

It will fit if your car has dual port exhaust.....my 99 OBS only has single port but there are a few years of 2.2 that are dual..

Borla use to make 2.2 single port headers but they were over $500 and they were junk (they crack on the welds)

yea mine is a dual port 2.2 1997...
I was looking for something a little stronger and better flow... also does anything know about finding OBS catback's or could I get away with fitting a 2.5 system

If it is dual port then you can use a 2.5 header/full exhaust.
If you were to ever turbo your car you could even use a wrx header. (dual port heads make everything so much easier)

Borla still makes one for the 2.2 with a 1000000 mile warranty ($385 + shipping). I was thinking of doing the same thing to my 97 obs

Is this one of the reasons there is a higher hp in the 99+ 2.2 engines? For the price would it be just better to swap out a different set of heads?

The later 2.2 heads are all single port. I have a 97 OBS and it was single port, so both of you guys talking about the OBS' should be single port. I suggest you climb underneath there and taking a good look at what you have. That link that was provided is a very high quality piece and is the only header I would personally buy.

What I was curious of is that looking at 99-00 specs it shows a higher hp then 97-98 and I thought perhaps it was due to single/dual port for better flow.

96 and prior were 1.8 dual right? Because I have heard of pulling a 1.8 head and putting it on for higher compression and then being able to use a dual port header.... So many things so little time and even less money...

From what I understand, the 1.8's are all dual port. As far as the 2.2, they were also available in the earlier models, but I'm not sure exactly when the cutoff was that they switched to single port. The difference in horsepower is only 5, so as far as I know it was just a slightly different tune.
If you're trying to stay N/A, I would personally just go with the 2.5 stuff and not even mess around with the 1.8 or 2.2. The 2.5 heads supposedly flow way better from what I've heard...
