the FOURTH addition to our subaru family

- 1968 subaru 360 sedan
- 2003 subaru legacy wagon
- 2008 subaru impreza WRX hatch

and now the 1991 subaru legacy wagon -- 5 speed manual 2.5 liter

it SEEMS like it's in good condition. the shifter is wobbly (bushings are shot), the suspension is dead (struts are shot), brakes are squishy (pads, need to bled probably)... other than that the obvious, leaky exhaust, bald tires... yellowing headlights... probably could use an oil change and tune up...

but we (wife and I) paid $900 for it :)

any advice on this? (from people with older subarus) -- it has 225,000 miles... original owner! it's running strong (he still was driving it every day)

haha it's dark out, not much to see but it's basically like this:

minus the sunroof and minus a hubcap ;)

I picked up a set of these free from my brother in-law, they fit the car and have a good offset:

16x7" @ 5x100

just gotta find some center caps that don't say VW ... and I'm totally painting them gold :)

sweet...sounds like a good find. did it come with service records? unless you're planning a swap, i'd check when the timing belt was changed last.

A 91' Legacy with a 2.5 liter? Is that a foreign option or was that a mistake? Anywho, sweet car! And 225k with the original owner! Thats amazing!

sorry its a 2.0 -- I was thinking 2.0 vs. 2.5 instead of 1.8 vs 2.0

they changed the timing belt last year and have all the service records... it's a ton of miles but apparently mostly highway miles...

As with my...experienced...legacy (174k running strong, falling apart [rusty corners]) you shouldn't have any problem as long as you keep her healthy you'll get nothing but rust and if youre lucky enough to not live where I do the rust wont be all that bad. damn salt. but I would suggest a repair manual unless you know every subaru every year every model with every trim. everything changes from just a few years but stays relatively the same, the manual is nice for fluid capacities, torque settings on bolts, and where those damned dash screws are. anyways good luck with the leggy they last till the engine drops out of the frame...yes it happened, my old 91 dropped the engine because the frame around it gave up, but it was still running on the ground...Ford tough? try a Subaru.

yeah, so far it looks OK as far as rust goes. it has a little in the rear fender on the passenger side but I'll be welding that up pretty soon :)

I have a feeling we'll be driving it for a very long time

how does that 360 hold up, I hear they are amazing cars but ive never gotten to be in one. would love to hear that 2 stroke in action. I imagine compaired to the '08 rex its more of a collector car

the 360 is old so it's got a few rust problems (like the floors) but the engine is solid and will run forever... it's like a lawn mower or snowmobile engine.

but yeah it's more of a fun toy than a car I would drive around all the time.
