EDIT 9-29-08 :: I guess the AP fit a little to snug in this holder because I snapped one of the pieces off the g-tech holder. It no longer holds the AP and I'm searching for a new solution.
Ok, this isn't completely DIY, but it's pretty close. You have an accessport but hate only being able to use it with a passenger or trying to hold it while shifting? How about a nice way to mount this bad boy, hands free!
I've had the g-tech for quite a while but never really used it. So I figured I would see if I could mod it to hold the accessport and to my surprise the AP fits in it very well, without modifications. It's snug, but it won't fall out; which is a plus. Just had to make the small hole for the usb cable to be used.
Parts needed ::
- Dremel - w/ small drill bit and a couple grinding bits
- Exacto Knife
- G-tech PRO(SS or RR) window suction mount**
**Competition holder is the same & can be used.
**Buy the holder here $20 :: http://www.gtechprostore.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=020201

Spot that needs a hole made with the drill bit to make way for the usb cable::

Pilot hole made. You'll need a good sized hole so to make the pilot, a quick eyeball spot is all that is needed. ::

Now use a grinding bit to expand the hole.

Testing to see if the hole is big enough yet. Nope, time to grind more away.

Getting closer. The usb goes in but not all the way. I want a nice snug fit, so a bit more grinding.

You can see the plug is almost all the way in but hitting the plastic still.

Now the plug goes all the way in :headbang: I used the exacto knife here to cut off any excess plastic that the grinding bit left behind. You could also sand it but I didn't feel like going that far with it.

All done & installed.

I'll add some pics of how I mounted the dongle semi-permanently(so it doesn't hit your leg while shifting) and routed the usb cable. Enjoy!
Mods, I wasn't exactly sure which DIY forum to put this in. It's electrical, but also performance & cosmetic... please move if you need too.
