Hey guys. I have an auto transmission in my Legacy Sport. The other day I was changing the fluid and I found metal shavings on the drain plug.

It was fine for a while, but now between shifts it gets high on the rpm's before slipping into gear. It's not TO bad yet. I would say I have a few thousand miles. I don't have a lot of money so this should give me sometime to save up to get one.

What 5spd Impreza transmission would be best for the money? I'm thinking like in the $500 range. I'm pretty sure my Legacy is running around 190 hp, and once I do the intercooler probably a little over 200hp. From there I won't be doing anymore mods. What are your suggestions?

i found one for a N/A legacy. they are not the strongest, but since I don't have gobs of horsepower and its just my DD i'm going to pick it up. its going for pretty cheap.

it might be closer gearing for you to give you a little more giddyup. i'd think it would be okay as long as its still in good shape.

the BEST trans to get, IMO, would be a 4.44 ratio 5 spd available in some foresters I believe.....also check 'em on EBAY.com. MAKE SURE that whatever trans you get, you have the matching rear diff (ratio wise) or else you will have MANY problems in the future....

what gets me is that the guy says its for an N/A legacy, but he says it won't bolt into his 02' RS. I first of all don't understand why you would want to bold that into an RS and secondly it should have the same bolt pattern. I'm wondering if its actually for a Loyale or another model with the EA motor.

anything that came from an EJ motor car, will fit into any leggy, impreza, baja, or forester.....its that easy. The ONLY difference that there is/was is that the older (aka phase 1) cars did NOT have 1 bolt (behind the starter) that the phase 2 cars have...still will bolt in though...as long as its from an EJ car

he must have a Loyale transmission then.

Okay I found out whats going on. It would have fit in his RS, but he doesn't want the clutch cable setup as opposed to the new setup. I got the transmission for 200 bucks. I know that I need the following:

-The mounts
-A Cable
-Clutch Pedal Box/Clutch Pedal etc.
-Center Console/Shifter Assembly
-Possibly a different rear diff.

Is there anything else that I need? Do I need to run different axles? This transmission is either from an early 90's Impreza or Legacy N/A.
