i was reading up on this the other day and this real time feature seems a little to good to be true. just start it up with the real time feature and it will tune your car? is that real has anyone got one of these?

The real time feature is if you want to run a specific map temporarily and not the next time you start your car. You literally have to load the real time maps each time you want them and they go away after you turn you car off. It won't just do it automatically.

No, the ECU will retain the realtime map as long as the ECU doesn't lose power. If you reset the ECU or disconnect the battery, it will revert to the base map.
The accessport can flash both realtime and base maps. However, if you want to use the AP to tune your car you have to either have certain mods, or have a custom tune made by a shop.
Off the shelf maps from Cobb (probably a good idea to flash these as a base map):
Stage 1 = totally stock car.
Stage 2 = aftermarket downpipe (preferably a turbo-back exhaust)
Then they have some utility maps (valet, anti-theft, economy) which can be used with any mods. Usually good to make these a realtime map.
A Protuner who works with Cobb's software can custom tune your car for whatever mods you have and supply you with the map to put into your AP.
^^ that sounds correct to me - it was a couple of years ago I set mine up but I recall that COBB's suggestion was to set the base and real-time maps to the same settings...
again a little bit fuzzy but I think I have CA91 stage 1 for both and I also have the built in 'no start' map, the 'valet' map (rev. limiter at 2500), and some ECONO map which gets you better gas mileage (I dunno who would opt. for that one :p)

Draco has it right.
My basemap is the Stage 2 91octane map. (If i remember correctly stage 2 is supposed to be used with a full TBE and without cats). You can change realtime maps whenever you want using the AP. I have had problems switching into economy mode though, something is up with mine. I'm not too worried about it though Stage 2 is all good with me.
The great thing about the accessport is that you can get Protuned. A tuner will make maps specifically for your car to get as much performance out of it as possible. Most guys will even let you add a 100 octane map for $50-100 bucks extra for that extra punch at the track! :)

Negative. I am 99% sure it will not work. Subaru has a nasty habit of changing ECU programs every model year.

alrigth well is it worth buying it if im doing a full set up with out touching the block. aps sr40 turbo full cobb exhaust and up pipe aps top mount with aps inlet and discharge pipes and agency power bov and sti pink injectors. or should i opt for something like a hyda ems or haltech or just spend some money and have grd do a reflash oh and cobb air intake.
I'm no expert but it sounds like you might have enough stuff done to warrant a 'real' tune... the COBB tune-it-yourself deal gives you access to a variety of cookie-cutter maps based on mods done to your car but if you can't stop modding then you will outgrow the standard accessport quickly...
also, I have heard from our motorsports store that more then one 07 WRX person has been unhappy with accessport's performance for some reason???

... ... ok you will NEED a tune for your set up even with the AP...
what the AP will allow you to do is have many maps that you can choose between... such as high boost, low boost, meth, race gas, ****ty cali gas for those occasions that your driving thru cali/navada/arizona... it will also allow you to get a map via email from PDXtunig for only $150.

the version 2 is by engine size so no it will not work with your car... +04 sti and +06wrx are the same while the one for the 02-05qwrx is the same...
version 1 is by year.

you will out grow any tune once you do another mod that your tune did not take ion to account so this statement makes no sense.
the AP is just a way to store maps and it comes with some ots maps so you dont need a tune if you have the parts listed in their map notes.
and the AP can handle any mod you throw at it, even fully built motors. it just needs to be tuned just like a hydra or any EMS

yep and i heard from this one guy that he knew a guy that once had an issue... it turns out if people dont follow cobb's map notes you will mess up your tune/engine
