So, yeah this is probably the 3rd time so far this year that i've had big exhaust leak problems. My turboback came with those silly clamp connectors so normal small leaks are really not a big concern of mine (at the gaps between the DP > midpipe, midpipe > axleback).

If any of you remember some of my early problems *cough* remflex gaskets x2... that sucked, but i spent the $$$ to get some beautiful OEM gaskets in there and have had no problems since...

Now this. The pictures speak for themselves.

I had to remove my midpipe to swap out the CF driveshaft before this weekends rallycross, and look what happened! The %$@^ing exhaust hanger literally pulled out of the stainless steel midpipe. If this were ever to happen i would have expected the fricking post would neatly rip out of the pipe, but it tore a jagged hole in the side. :angryfinger:

So now.... once again.... the STi sounds like a sopwith camel. :machinegunleft:
Should make for some good comedy this weekend.

Paging Dr. 06drtywgn, can you patch this up???

That happened to me with my legacy this winter. Although, it did that at first, and then after about 2 days, the whole pipe just fell off because the crack was so big.
I got stopped twice because the car was too loud.

omg.. aaron.. ur exhaust hates u! lol

i know that at NAPA there is an exhaust hole fixing clamp, i used it on a MUCH LARGER hole on my jeep and it uses fiberglass wrap.. and a huge wide pipe clamping device.. lasted me 18,000 miles and still going.. and then i got rid of it..

all that for 6 bucks

I dunno what's going on here, but I was thinking the same thing as Andy. Again. First Kokoroscan and now this. Scary... :D

Anyway the only thing is whether the lack of an exhaust hanger there would hurt you... if so.. a big screw clamp round the pipe and through the bottom of the hanger maybe?! Ghetto to the max!

On my first car the exhaust fell off at the end of the downpipe... I had to drive it three miles to the nearest muffler shop. It didn't sound mean like a Sopwith Camel though.. it sounded like a tractor.

(nice reference there Aaron! Royal Flying Corps FTW! :D )

The clamps holding the DP to the midpipe and also at the other end are on pretty dang good so i dont think its going to fall off. Well see if the rallycross can shake that badboy off on saturday...

muhahahahah

Oh yeah no prob. Just need to get that piece to me some how. What that thing needs is a doubler then weld that pin on. The SS is not thick in the mount area, especially for all the beatings you throw at it.

Amazing to think that powered flight was less than 20 years old when that thing was built..

Some really crazy facts:

1. Look closely, the WHOLE ENGINE rotated with the prop!

2. Those WWI planes were often lubricated with Castor oil. And with the lack of good seals, they had to use a LOT of it. After a flight, the first stop for any pilot was the bathroom!
