This morning, when I started my car, a big puff of smoke came out of the exhaust pipe and it continued to smoke slightly for a minute or so. The smoke was a light color, whitish gray. Then though out the day I started the car and it still smoked a little. This has never happened before and I was just wondering what might be the cause???

White smoke is coolant. Blue is oil, black is rich. You'll sometimes see a blue puff if you let it sit over night after drving it hard. It's just oil the PCV burped up into your intake. Subies regurgitate pretty often..

But if you're burning coolant, that's not good. If you have a turbo, it could be turbo seals. It could also be a blown headgasket or cracked block, turbo or not. Sounds like the white smoke is pretty persistant. I'd have a mechanic look at it, and do a leakdown/compression test. If you have a turbo, you can pull the intercooler and/or downpipe and look for coolant.

It must have been blue then because I was driving hard the evening prior. I started it this morning and no smoke.

Thanks for the help
