I had a free hour or so tonight, so i figured it might be a good idea to clean out my air filter before this weekend's rallycross. Keep in mind this is AFTER the dirtyimpreza meet. I had driven about 60mph through a mudbog of about 4" deep mud and water...
Ok... thats pretty dirty...

Then i looked at it closer...

Yep some dirt splash-age got through:

Im running a stock airbox (with a GP moto elbow delete) and there was a decent amount of dried up muddy water on the inside of the airbox past the filter.... woops!
Do you think that was robbing me of some airflow??? LOL I'm suprise my car has been starting and running normally...

Wow. WOW. That is impressive. Not sure how that much mud made it into your intake! Your poor suby must have been gasping for air!
I just checked mine for the heck of it, and at first I thought I was dirt free. Here's the top of the filter:

And then we have the bottom of the filter:

WTF? You know, last time I checked the filter should be dirty on the intake side of things? Unless I'm completely mistaken and dillusional air flows from the top of the box down through the bottom? Bah. Great job filter, great job.

Yeah. I checked mine before GH3, and it was pretty bad. I had done Ridgecrest, Jean I, GH2, and the Dirty Impreza Meet on the same filter. It sucks that I had to buy another paper filter, but no one keeps my K&N in stock.

can you honestly say that this:

is bad after seeing something like this:

???
Damn that is dirty as hell, I know if I ever come out to one of your meets I am bringing my extra filter.

No, no absolutely not bad at all Aaron!
Just curious as to how the intake side of things are shiny clean while the reverse is dirty? I would expect it to be the other way around?

I got a K+N replacement but have yet to put it in. So far I clean my stock one after any dirty excursion. The intake side is suprisingly always clean!! The pleats on the inlet side pretty much fill up with muck,(just like your pics). Just takes a few minutes to pop out and blast w/air.
