New Features for the Forums?

I'm always striving to make the forums better and better. I think theyre pretty good for the time being, but what features would you like to see incorporated into the forums?

Don't be sad if your suggestion doesn't become part of the forums overnight, but i do take your suggestions very seriously. I feel that if people like certain things about the fourms, then more new people that arrive might be more inclined to post regularly.

So, whats a cool feature you'd like to see on the DirtyImpreza Forums?

I think the features offered by the forums are great right now, but there might be a few small things.

I think a larger selection of smilies might be a good idea, as small of a concern as that might be, smilies are always fun.

Also, a calendar might be something of interest, so that we can post up in the subforums, and maybe have an option to "add to calendar" or something around those lines. That way we can see the calendar to see what events are coming up. Maybe the calendar could be posted on the main page, or subpages, or any place that is easy to navigate to.

a few new smilies have been added. Lots of them out there are lame. Im still looking for the yellow smiliey throwing the metal rockers. If anyone knows where to find that one i want it.

hey...how about regional memberships and/or chapters kinda like @ nasioc. you can check off the region that you live in that way you can see which regions are getting the most members. :lick:

yeah.....or something like a google map with pins in all our locations with our names next to it.

This would be tough to do with the bulletin board software we're using. Another reason to upgrade to vBulletin like everyone else...

I like the pins idea though, google makes that pretty easy. might have to do something like that.

I like the google idea, and it would serve a similar purpose as having regional memberships.

id really like to see subscriptions, easier to keep track of posts, and replies instead of going through each forum or even "all new since last visit" etc.

I know of a pretty easy way to subscribe to entire forums, but subscriptions are pretty much exclusive to vBulletin, which we probably wont be migrating to just yet.

Also, since the last visit date keeps refreshing on it's own (at least for me) is ther a way for me to tag from "new post since last visit" so it doesn't clear everything when i log out (since i do this mostly from work and cant have the explorer running all the time) and come back in at a later time?

what about a place in the header (where your join date, location, post count is) for you to list your vehicle. just the year and model etc. sometimes when people are posting questions and what not about their cars, i have to scroll around and search my own memory to try and remember/figure out what the hell kinda car they're talkin' 'bout.

Great idea blix. There are quite a few questions out there that could be model and year specific; the right answer for a bugeye might be wrong for a gc/gm/gf, or an NA vs turbo question.

Its in the works. A buddy of mine made it so that on their forum, there was an actual link in the short description of the car (i.e. 2004 WRB STi). This link could then be linked to your Members Journal. I want to do this for DI, but my friend said to wait until vBulletin 3.7 comes out of beta. So this would happen after that when he tests it and makes sure it works.

Hopefully soon! I just dont think you can have more than one vehicle listed. Oh well. pick one i guess :)

Well one is better than none and I don''t mind waiting. I have a feeling it won't be done by the time I leave so I'm pretty sure you'll have it done and then some by the time I get back on the boards.

Blix's idea is great. The mazda3 forum Im part of has the option to put your model on the header. It works great for obvious reasons.

Or you could just put your cars and link to the member journal in the signature.. and that can be done right now.

:lol2: thats just what you need huh Jon! I actually do need some software to restrict signature pic size (to keep the threads looking uniform) but people are being pretty good about it so no need to do it now.

when I tried to have to colums, one on the left and one on the right, it wouldn't allow me to put tabbed spaces between the two.

I use the pipe "|" symbol between mine and it fills in nicely across the size of the window.

i've had this idea for a while.... was thinking it would be cool if you could link your members journal like a facebook page so i could tell people to check out dirtyimpreza.com/newk_rally and it would take them to your member journal. don't know the logistics behind it but thought it would be a cool feature.
