I use my car for everything so I have 3 sets of wheels now.

Set 1: Kosei K1 TS 17x7 for daily commuting and driving my family around in. Keeps the car a "fun ride" and lightweight for mpg. At one time used when I was running stock class autox. I wrap them with summer/wet tires which works in California year 'round.

Set 2: 04 STi BBS 17x7.5 for daily driving and track days. Wrapped in summer tires. I'm refraining from R-comps for now.

Set 3: 00 RS 16x7 6-spoke wheels for driving up to the mountain in snow, daily driving, dirt fun, and rallyx.

So.... I'm considering the ContiExtreme's for Set3 because they will do snow without killing myself, are CHEAP ($80/tire) for the quality, and will allow me to dirt/rallyx. Any things to point out before I push the button?

Should I consider BFG T/A instead? Or something else?

Note that although I have multiple sets, I still use each for multiple applications. I'm not trying to be the most competitive at all. But I want something that is appropriate for the application. Last I rallyx'd, I only had some worn summers available to use and I seemed to be slipping more than I should so I want to go back to at least a set of all seasons.

I was thinking about the same tire (ConiExtreme) but I ended up getting the BFF Traction T/A (H rated) and I LOVE them for rally-x.

What's getting me is that:

contiextreme V rated, UHP for $80
BFG traction TA H rated HP for $89
BFG traction TA V rated HP for $91

Wouldn't I prefer the UHP tire for the street part of its use?

I thought you had street tires?

I thought you had street tires?

I do. But I use all 3 sets on the street sometimes too. I don't do enough rallyx/dirt to warrant a dedicated set. So all the sets see multiple duty.

... I just bought a set of barely used all-seasons from ebay for 9.99 + shipping :-D all better than 8/32 (75-80% tread left)... shipping was about 100$ for all 4.. Seriously, in an all-season, brad doesn't matter too much...

its round, and has enough tread for snow/mud = good enough 4 me! of course I have Good tyres for auto-x and soon hope to have rally-x tyres...

The ContiExtremes are REALLY loud on the highway.

conti extremes suck....I don't know HOW they're V rated.

while driving down the access road to JV5 last year, two of them got that 'bubble' on the side wall....one leaked and I had to drive home on my snow tires.

I'm returning them to tire rack under the road hazard warranty and getting something else.

the sidewall is soft, they would suck at rallyX, IMO.

OK, good to know that I made the right choice with the BFG's!!

I have killed the road into JV at leat 4 times and I had zero problems.

As someone else who bought into the ContiExtreme thing because of price, hoping I would use them on sand/gravel for desert trips, I can confirm that they blow cheese on the road and are noisy as hell.

I've just picked up a second set of wheels for good tires and I'll be leaving the ContiExtremes as my "going to the desert" ONLY tires.

So the BFG traction TA are much more civil road tires AND they are better in the dirt?

Does H or V rated make much diff?

Get either H or V, just not the T rated.
