Howdy everyone!! I had a "track day" up at Willow Springs recently and whenever I hit the track, I try and put at least 4 gallons of race fuel (100 octane) in my tank as insurance (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21692877#) against knock. If I get a little power out of it I am happy, but it's not really the goal.

I had a buddy recently try Sports (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21692877#) Racing Fuel's additive SURA (Sports Unleaded Racing Additive)and he said he liked it. It is said that a 10% mixture with 91 will raise your octane to 96. So I called the guys over at Sports Racing Fuel and they hooked me up with a gallon and a half of the SURA for me to try out at the track.

I put the SURA in my tank when I filled up about a mile and a half from the track, so I can't say how much it affected my street performance (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21692877#), but when I hit the track, I did notice that my car was pulling a little harder than it normally does. My butt dyno did register a difference and I was very happy with the results. I do not have a "race gas" tune on my car mind you, only a 91 pump gas tune. Overall I liked the product and I would definitely use it again at the track.

i would think that if your car is really tuned for a specific octane, going up will actually sap a little hp. i talked to my tuner (chad block) about this kind of thing before my first track day, and he suggested mixing in race gas to raise your octane rather than additives (he also said i shouldn't need any at pocono in october, and only about 2 in the little STi tank in the summer...up here). i don't know if all are bad, but for the extra money, i'd rather be safe with a couple gallons of race gas mixed into a full tank. he said the higher octane (over my 93 tune) would only be for helping prevent detonation/knock, and that it would certainly not add any hp.

Maybe you should try the product, or have your tuner try it and see what you / he thinks.

I'm pretty sure that sportsracingfuel sponsors Kevin Welker and the RallyInnovations car...

I've never tried it before, but it might be fun to give it a try!

man what a hassle you guise got going on, the lowest octane gas here is 95 and up to 98 and in some places 99 octane(shell V-power) i never gas it up with less that 98

i'm fairly sure your octane ratings in Europe are completely different than here in the states, with your 98 being closer to our 93 or so. unfortunately for him in cali, they only get up to 91, while here in PA, i can get race gas (108 or 106) at certain regular gas stations...i don't even have to be at a track.
