Which snow tires work rather well in the dirt?
I was looking at getting some Blizzaks. I will be moving to NC come the end of the year and needing winter wheels and tires anyhow, so this summer will be my best chance to get a good deal on some off season wheels and tires.

Winterforce M&S - cheap and hold up well to abuse in the dirt. This is what they run on the cars at Team O'Neil's year round.
You probably want to avoid something like the Blizzaks which are a very soft multicell compound and siped aggressively for ice. They will tear up quickly (although they do work well in some rally-x conditions).

P.S. just noticed you have an STi - your options in 17" sizes are pretty limited and I don't think the Witerforce is made in 17" sizes - a couple of people are running Pirelli's for rallycross on their STis and seem to be doing reasonable with them.

I have Dunlop Winter Sport 3d. Size. 205/50/17
I like them, great in the snow....but also quite and a nice ride on dry roads for everyday driving. They're V rated, so they're pretty good on corners...I only notice handling performance on sharp, sharp cornering.
kind of expensive, but lets see how long they last...almost 10K miles on them so far, and 3 rally-X's.

I just picked up a set of LM 25 Blizzaks. They are far more aggressive than the LM 22's. Driving has a lot to do with it, but just ask Mike M. or MarkA, what they think of the blizzaks in SA class. It's the "snow tire" that fueled some stuff. chuckle, chuckle. The LM 25's largest sipe is .29" with sipes as small as .23 I'll find out how I like them at our first event on April 29th at Prairie City near Sacramento.
