me *bitchen* about turbo swaps....

Ok.. this whole thing has not been easy...


Its taken me about 3 weeks to crawl under, and drill a hole in the oilpan for the drain line.... That was easy, despite me putting it off for soo long...

After alot of Hammering I got the Headers and Up-pipe on :headbang: I had to bash in the up-pipe about half an inch to get it to clear parts of the sohc head, even after switching to a 2.5inch pipe..... (these are all stock fitment wrx/sti parts)

So then I went to bolt the turbo on, and the coil pack is right where it sits... So I made some brakckets to move the coilpack up and ontop of the intake manifold.. Bolted down the turbo, slid up the downpipe, got that on No problems...

Hooked up my oildrain line and put on my oil feed line and sandwich adapter plate... No problems...

Now I am done with the underneath stuff... what I thought would be hardest...

Grabbed my 06-07 stock intercooler, and it is too big... I cant get it in and ON the TB @ the same time.. its only too big by half an inch... WTF... Now I have to find a Turbo intake manifold OR... switch to a front mount...

What a pain in the ass.. I'm not taking everything back off.. Its on its staying on.. gotta make some kind of pipe to go from the turbo to the TB... grrr...

I measured the ej22 intake manifold from my legacy.. its about 2inches shorter in depth so as long as my DBW throttle body will bolt on I am in luck :-D If not I will be making something....

well the ej22 manifold is moved forward too much that it does not clear my alternator... so that Idea was scrapped...

I'm just going to make a little pipe to go from the turbo to the Throttle body, SO I can drive the car and earn some money and get a FMIC...

Ahh, I just saw your ad in the classifieds. I would have thought you could cram that in there. Of course, the AVO tmic in the RS turbo kit doesnt even fit in the GD's engine bay. Just put an awic in there:mrgreen:.

They are interesting, too much work I would think. I would stick to an ebay special FMIC, they have good results. Less stuff to go wrong.

BTW:

This is what I made for temporary use... Kinda sux, but I rushed it, and the first bead didnt seal 100% so I did 2-3 more beads on top of the 1st.. Thats why it looks like crap.. Shoulda painted it...

If you read the whole topic.. The 06-07 one doesnt fit.. its as short and Wide as you can get..... I'm going to go with a front mount once I get 200$


My Measurements...

From TB to AC lines... 8inches
From TB to Firewall... 9.5inch
06-07 intercooler top to outlet... 10.5inches

Its just not possibly going to fit... Without removing firewall or getting a different intake manifold, that moves the TB forward....

Try a Saab 900 Side mount...you have to make piping, BUT it WILL work....trust me, I have done it on many Leg. GT's and Impreza's...
