Now that Ksports gravel coilovers are now around $1,300, are they a good buy vs. a ground control sleeve spring combo? This would be for the frx rally cross session. I would love more ground clearance, but is higher steering geometry to much stress on chinese coilovers?

Thanks!

Since you haven't got an answer yet, ill toss my opinion out there. Oh wait, I don't have a good enough one yet :bored:. There are two reveiws I have found on these, one on nasioc and the same one on rs25. The problem is while the guy RX'd them and liked them, they where stolen thus, no long term review. They where rumored to update spring rates and such, but as far as I know they are street valved and soft sprung. They may have updated the valving but I have not located any confimations on this. If you do get them and the crap out after a year or two at least you have some nice tophats to switch to other coilovers.

There are discussions of other setups (gc vs. coils) on this forum so you can make a decision based on how much you want to spend.

I run the ksport rally spec gr's. look for my journal to see install and first impressions.

on the street/highway they are mediocre in terms of ride comfort. more bouncy than any other coilover i've had. on gravel and dirt they actually work quite well. they also handle spirited tarmac driving fairly well. so far i've only used them for ice racing and they work fine for that too.

Do you still play around with the settings or are you resided to bounce?
I wonder if a longer helper spring would help keep it in the useable stroke longer and eliminate it topping out so qucikly, killing some of the bounce.

Can you guys tell me what the smaller helper spring do on coilover setup like Tein? It is placed under the main spring. I am trying to create a coilover setup for my car as well. I want it to be good for gravel as well as for autox.

There are a few ways it can help depending on how the unit is valved. The main 2 would be softer more progressive initial travel allowing more weight to shift to that wheel also, a lower spring rate for small bumps making it less pronounced through the chassis.

The other would be it allows for the shock to already be initially in the stroke, more sag so the valving has more of a chance to do its job on rebound without topping out. This helps because most coilover units do not have the same stroke (useually short) compared to the stockers (sorta long) you pulled off.

You can slice it a couple different ways.

due to the inverted design they are a huge pita to adjust (because adjustment knobs are not built in like on the inverted bc's). I have dicked with them over a dozen times and cannot get all the bounce out. part of it was i installed them when we were experiencing negative and zero degree weather. now that it's warmer they are less bouncy

On NASTYSHACK, there's a thread about the KSports right now where they link to dyno testing of the dampers. The were so bad, they couldn't make them match (as in, one's full soft was harder than another's full hard).

oh I'm well aware of that thread. I've had good luck before with the "cheap" "offbrand" "replica" "knockoff" "chinese" whatever you want to call them coilovers before so I figured for 1.3k I'd give the ksports a shot. I'd recommend them if they were about $400 cheaper lol. I'm looking at switching to hotbits sometime this season - I really want independent compression and rebound adjustment
