Well I had ordered those Sparco mudflaps in red, I guess they are back ordered for the next month. So I am going to be creative, Rally Lights had one pair of red and one blue.....I am going to run one set up front and the other color in the back :)

Tacky?

Yes...

Cool?

Hell ya..

Just crusin around. I got 2nd to last at this rallyx, and you can probably tell why... look at how slow im going! i suck.

http://409industries.com/ImageHosting/STi/dsc_0008.jpg

But at least the RA flaps are on there. They have made a new UR (urethane) flap that i believe is on sale now. Its the same material that Prodrive, STi, and others use on their $200+ flaps. A little more flex, so maybe the wont make such a godawful scrape sound on the speedbumps.

Anyway, im trying to get my hands on a set, ill post pics if i get em.

Thanks! That's actually a custom-made decal. My fiance' posed for me and I traced the silhouette from a pic of her to use - much cooler than the traditional trucker girl. She thinks it's cool that her silhouette gets dirty on my mudflaps..

ok so ive had a few questions about how the new RA mudflaps (UR Limited) compare to the old ones, etc. So heres my mudflap progression and thoughts...

Fastline mudflaps
Pros: Cheap, solid black, pretty stiff
Cons: Sticks far out sides, looks ok on dedicated rally machine, not so cool on daily driver. Drags on speedbumps
Comments: I bought these when i really didnt know what i wanted from a mudflap. I just wanted something to keep the rocks off the side of my car and it needed to be cheap. these did the trick but i got over looking at them sticking out the sides of the car like dumbo ears.

http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/hosting/mudflap_compare/fastline2.jpg
http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/hosting/mudflap_compare/fastline3.jpg

Rally Armor Standard Mudflaps
Pros: Rounded Edges, Stiff, option to get colored logos, Affordable.
Cons: Stiff (yes this can be a con too!), makes dragging noise over speed bumps.
Comments: I was very happy with these mudflaps as they look great and did a very good job of keeping debris of the side of the car, more for your everyday rally enthusiast, if you were really into hardcore rallying you might want the flaps to come up higher on the wheel wells. Overall a great value, and the look awesome on the car, without drawing too much attention to themselves.
http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/hosting/mudflap_compare/ra_standard1.jpg
http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/hosting/mudflap_compare/ra_standard2.jpg

Rally Armor UR Limited Mudflaps
Pros: Shiny Finish looks awesome! Same size as standard mudflaps, Urethane material has a nice amout of flex. Substantially cheaper than Prodrive and STi's Urethane mudflaps, Sweet logos
Cons: Cannot clean flaps with solvent cleaners (dont get simple green on them)
Comments: These are by far Rally Armor's best mudflap product to date. They have a great balance of looking good and functionality. Since they are the same size as the standard mudflaps pictured above, you would probably want something bigger for hardcore rallying. Their semi-gloss finish is a compliment to a clean car.
http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/hosting/mudflap_compare/RA_URflaps_002.jpg
http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/hosting/mudflap_compare/RA_URflaps_014.jpg
http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/hosting/mudflap_compare/RA_URflaps_018.jpg

Final thoughts:

It really boils down to what you want. Maximum protection vs looks. I think the UR flaps are a great balance of the two, so that is what i currently use. For my dedicated stage rally car that will be built later this year i am going to be looking for mudflaps that come up further on the wheel wells, and still have some flex. Also the RA flaps are somewhat narrow, in the respect that the cover the outside of the car just fine, but rocks will be flying around all over underneath the car. Personally i dont really care about this a whole lot, but some people might be concerned about it.

Great write up Aaron!

Thank you everyone for your support of our products.

Some of you have brought up a few questions on the sizing of our flaps as well as the overall effectiveness so we thought it would be best to post some information that would help clarify any questions you may have.

Our intent has been always to produce a product that would satisfy both Impreza owners with the need for a wider mud flap, as well as those who prefer something not excessively huge beyond their intended functionality- a streetable compromise.

A while back, we performed a 4 pot conversion on one of our bug eye vehicles and have a few pictures that can give you a visual point of reference on the coverage.

Here is an example of the R/A Classic/UR rear coverage on an Impreza. Note the concentration of debris/dirt towards the center of the flap, (this is a 225 wide tire) towards the sides of the flap you will see the grit begin to taper off and disappear. Our mud flaps offer the kind of coverage one would need for daily driving such as this:

http://www.longislandsubaruclub.com/images/ra/rear.jpg

On the front end we see the same type of debris/dirt concentration (the splash on the undercoated wheel well area is a result of the wheel turning)

http://www.longislandsubaruclub.com/images/ra/front.jpg

Here is the same flap/vehicle type protecting against a severe mud/gravel spray condition.

http://www.longislandsubaruclub.com/images/ra/muddyfront.jpg

and an additional closeup:

http://www.longislandsubaruclub.com/images/ra/muddyfront2.jpg

The mud flaps protect in the most severe conditions, offering coverage from end to end.

The UR series of our flaps are premium urethane. The finish is specifically engineered to complement a vehicle's finish. Owners of lowered vehicles can take advantage of the "flex factor" which is inherent in the physical properties of urethane.

The UR mud flaps flex and yield as necessary as conditions require yet maintain their form without the excessive "curling" effects seen in some of the generic mud flaps.

http://www.longislandsubaruclub.com/images/ra/ur4.jpg

here are a few additional pictures of the UR series mounted:

http://www.longislandsubaruclub.com/images/ra/ur1.jpg

http://www.longislandsubaruclub.com/images/ra/ur2.jpg

The fronts on the UR series are slightly narrower on the inner wheel well area for practical purposes, but offer the same coverage where required

They look the same how long have you had them on?... I will bring my camera to work tomarow and take a picture and post it to see if they are the same ones. Mine did drag until I brought them up about 2 inches. at any one pint in the day I have about 30k worth or parts and tools in my trunk and they would hit everything.

I am looking to see if any one has a patern or an autocad dwg file I can reproduce on some 1/4 inch rubber that I have sitting in my garage.. I want to go wider in the rear. the front I am not worried about it.. I googled it and came up with nothing... I might just have to make the good ol fassion card board patern.

Workin out pretty well on the dirt!! I've kept the PSI at about 50 and not had a problem!!

I had to take mine off this past weekend at the RallyX. They seemed to be more securely fixed to the bumper than the bumper was to the car.

The end result?

nice, i may consider them since they eased off on the rules and let snow's be run in the street classes. whats the max air pressure in those...about 50????

Yeah I run them at a 50 psi and haven't had an issue (with the exception of a partial de-bead at ridgecrest but hey stock STIs were fully de-beading there).

Thanks!

I picked them up at Advanced Auto, Highland 18x12 splash guards. They cost 20.00 for all four. Their cheap as hell and scratch easy. It took a couple hours putting them on. The fronts had to be cut and heated up to mold them around the inner fenders. The DI sticker cost $2.50. I only put the sticker on the back left flap.

Between the lift and the lack of equivalent lengthening in mudflaps, I somehow doubt they help very much, haha. Still look sick though.

They actually do help! My car was kept way cleaner during the event and the subsequent mountain trip to follow.

^ nice. it just seemed like the lift made it so the mud flaps dont block as much flying stuff at that angle and distance

Photo whoring my cheapassed ghetto DIY mudflaps because I can:

Well after dark on our last COS drive.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3229/2318904605_0dd8d9fa7f_o.jpg

I just realized you can't see the flaps in this picture. Oh well. Notice that the wheels are at full droop. I'm actually high-centered with the wheels about 2 feet off the ground in this pic. Took an hour to dig it out. Well, more down than out. As soon as I got the wheels back on the ground, I just rammed through the snowbank.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2047/2278317622_c805764a40_o.jpg

This was right after the flaps were installed, they're still straight here. Moments later, we were passing sport bikes on Hellbender (NC-28) and Tail of the Dragon (US-129). The looks on their faces (well, eyes, full face helmets and all) as they were hunted down by a station wagon bearing kayaks were epic.

This is what the aftermath of 2 runs of SCCA Puddingcross looks like. This was several months ago. After a total of about 6 hours spent cleaning the car, I'm still finding mud and birdsnests of grass falling out of it ever few days. The first cleaning session removed enough mud that the car literally drove better afterwards.

Forest Service roads are the bomb.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2176/2237733013_1e9cb52697_o.jpg

Roads that the Forest Service has abandoned are even better.

Let me say it now: the lip was a bad idea. It settled the car down at high speeds like I wanted it to, but I couldn't go 50 miles without running it into something.
