I have an '07 STI and Cobb TBE exhaust. The other day I was driving and it sounded like the exhaust was coming from under the car. I have noticed this once or twice before but it always went away and I never found a leak. This time when I looked under the car I could see where is was leaking from. Where the downpipe connect to the mid pipe there is a leak. The bolts are tight and the flanges are touching where the bolts go through, but it starts to open up in between the bolts. What could have caused this and what can I do to fix it?

there is also a Larger size donut gasket that you can buy... I bought a 3inch Catback and had to buy the larger donut because my stock donut fell inside the flange.. looked similar to yours....

+1 on a gasket to start. It looks like something might have hit part of the exhuast to cause that. You can try straightening the rear flange first, but definately put a gasket in there.

Thats what I had to do with mine. The only difference is I had a large leak.

I will get a gasket. Thanks for the help everyone. When I was installing it I thought there should have been a gasket there, but there was only one in the kit and it said to put it in between the mid pipe and the muffler. ??

this gasket....

How does that gasket work? Does it go on the inside? Kinda looks like a coupler.

this gasket....

After I saw a picture of this gasket it hit me. I thought the gasket was flat so that is what I was looking for. Turns out I have had the gasket all along. It was still on the end of my stock downpipe. When I was removing the stock exhaust and installing the Cobb TBE I had thought that this thing was attached to the stock downpipe and didn't even think it was a gasket.

So it's fixed. I have to admit that it sounded better with the leak. lol

Gasket:

Where it came from (stock downpipe):

Where it is supposed to go:

Thanks for everyone's help!!!

I hate those stupid spring bolts! The flanges on my Tanabe catback are super thick! So i had to push so freakin hard to get it come thru the other side. Took about an hour or so haha.

I didn't have to many miles on the exhaust so it was pretty easy. Didn't even have the use the break away spray stuff.

I bought a longer set from a ford ranger... bvut mainly because my threads were completely rusted away/non existant in 1 year...

stoked that you got it fixed! whenever possible you should use new gaskets because they crush to make a good seal.

Those spring bolts suck so much ass, i broke both on the RS. stupid POS.

Tell me about it...
When I put in my new downpipe I broke both spring bolts (even drenching it in PB Blaster) and the donut flange kind of flaked apart.

My friend and I made our own flange with that high heat resistant liquid silicon stuff, but when I change my catback I'll probably go and order one of those donut flanges now that I know where to find them.
