If bg5 is twin turbo then no it will not fit. The engine will but not the turbos. Find a 20g or 20k. Or get a 20h or 20r and convert it to single spooler set up. And swap that **** cause you'll love waking up just to drive it !!!!

I would keep checking the forums. I find motors that pop up on there every so often. Also talk to some shops in your area. They might have one laying around.

I know 3 really good shop that have a lot of STI v7-8 in stock but it's a bit far from you since it's in canada:p

For the TT setup, it's a direct bolt-on on a rhd car. On a lhd, the steering column is in conflict with the turbo.

BG5 is the body style of of a legacy outback wagon.. the motor should fit.. The 5 means that it is a 2.5liter motor.. depends on the year if it is SOHC or DOHC... If it is the same year as yours then it should be a direct swap..

Just save one turbo, and make a custom Uppipe and downpipe ;) You cant use WRX exhaust parts unless you get a WRX engine cradle or modify your engine cradle...

yeah, ive still got a lot of reasearch and some places to call, ive just gotta get the rs motor fixed(blew through an ENTIRE bottle of coolant in 3 days, yes THREE days) so if it is gonna be over 2000 dollars im gonna hope to fall into an awesome deal on a wrecked wrx or sti and swap the motor over.....so...i dunno yet

Yeah for me its looking to cost me 3000$ to swap in a BRAND NEW STi shortblock, rebuilding the stock heads, and slapping on a STOCK wrx turbo setup....
Check out my member journal if you want to watch the process....

I got mine from jhot on ebay. They are awesome and sell super clean engines for cheap and charge reasonable shipping prices. Any ej engine will bolt up but tt setups are not going to fit and are lame any ways. i know you can convert tt to single but it takes some wiring and shiz too. Jhot seems to only have tt sets right now which sucks. I doubt they sell very often. I did a compression test on mine and replaced the t-belt and idlers gaskets ect and ran it hard. It's the best thing I've ever done to a vehicle.

So DO it !! You could almost poop $1200 if you push hard enough.

It's up to $2k now, but still way worth it..the engine alone is worth that much
if the valves aren't bent.

You can take everything, including the dash and swap it in..You'd just have to
splice in the door locks/ windows, sunroof and lights.. Not _that_ bad next to mending harnesses..:D

rllyrckt
02-04-2008, 05:54 PM
yeah, im not doin the harness ive gotta find somebody to do it, ecs says 1000 to do it, so idk

22b-righton
02-04-2008, 06:03 PM
Please see above post, and use the entire harness.. Seriously, that's the easiest way to deal with it.. We've done a bunch of them.

If you get the whole car, then you have everything you need. You can have an auto electrician do the locks, etc.. That's cake next to mending a chassis harness..

yeah. what should i send out to get merged? and should i still use the rs ecu for anything or no?

VermillionX
02-04-2008, 08:52 PM
I would run an aftermarket one. I have heard that Megasquirts are good to run.

my01rs-t
02-05-2008, 08:05 AM
Use the whole wrx everything or run megasquirt like me !! The rs ecu will be useless.

VermillionX
02-05-2008, 10:52 AM
Yeah thats what I was thinking. I have heard that the RS ecu is a piece of junk.

well, i think im gonna put the swap off since the head gasket is covered under warranty, w00t w00t, but the right one is leaking oil, so im gonna get the right side replaced, timing belt replaced and all new drive belts done for 800 dollars, so the swap will be put off for now...

i just pruchased mine from JHOT, got it before it was even on their inventory. Origianlly i didnt realize the GF8 jdm wrx motor have alot less power than the GC8 sedan motors.

So i held out, and happened to email them if they had any coming , turns out they had two GC8 motors, one was a 93 (kinda a bad year from what i head, they didnt have everything up to par yet) and the other was my 95.

Came to 1655 shipped, and was sent out the day after i paid for it, before it was in their inventory, and sold before it was totally unpacked from the container. Have nothing but good things to say about them.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Just to give you some numbers.. heres a simple list of what i have gotten and prices

-Wrx crossmember with brakes $200
-Motor/tranny/fuel pump/intercooler/harnesse/ecu/axles/driveshaft $1655 shipped
-WRX pedal assembly and clutch cylinder $?
-Power steering adapters or connectors $?

rllyrckt
02-06-2008, 09:25 AM
i didnt get it, my headgasket was covered under warranty and the price went over 3xxx, so im gonna wait till later on and i really just want an STi motor so im gonna wait till they become cheaper....so no swap right now
