I guess they didnt have a roll cage or fire extinguisher. lol

"For reasons we have yet to determine, the driver lost control of the car and hit a pole that supports a traffic signal at the intersection"

Road head at 100mph is dangerous

101-105 mmmmh at this speed a roll cage wouldn't done anything for them i've seen some accidents in stage rally going 70 80 mph and there is not much car left...specially hitting the post on the side...:-( that sucks... keeping it in the track is alot safer...

I just watched the 9news reporting on this. the graphic representation shows that the car snap steered into the pole-at least it was quick. there is a time and a place-2am on public roads is unfortunately neither. so sad.

Did anyone read the posts at the bottom of the page?^^^

The first post:
Wow..thanks for the info. My parents just bought a subaru impreza and I thought it was a little granny car. Nice and easy for them. I had no idea it could go that fast.

I didn't really post this for any reason other than it was a Subaru. It wouldn't have mattered what car it was, the driver was in error by driving that fast with a complete lack of ability. Our Subarus have incredible performance, but are by no means immune to the laws of physics and product capabilities, such as tire adhesion. I know it has been very cold here in Colorado, and all the things associated with that type of weather, and who knows what goes on at 2:00am with young people (all three were in their early 20s, two men and a woman). A show of bravado, maybe it was a impromptu street race, who knows. The important thing is, it is a wakeup call for anyone who enjoys their performance car. There is a time and place for everything, and a degree of talent and training associated with said performance driving. If you don't have it, don't attempt it. I can't count the number of times I've seen street squirrels on Hayabusas and the like with no helmets, just a pair of "Snell approved" sunglasses, pulling huge wheelies on a bike capable of Formula 1 car performance. These same type of people want the biggest turbos and whatever else to make gobs of horsepower, and still have the same lack of judgement and talent as before.
I say, pray for the surviving families, their loss is a heavy one. Having just been to a young person's funeral recently, taken way before her time, you have to wonder what a parent is thinking as they bury their child. In this case, they have to bury the remaining pieces of their child, all because someone didn't respect their lives. Be careful out there, and wield your power for good, not evil. Boost corrupts, too much boost corrupts absolutely.

Maybe there should have been. I have no sympathy for street racers. I'm all for 'spirited driving' but jesus, why would you be doing 100+ in a damn city?!

Oh those evil "turbo-charged Subaru WRX's"
Sister: Dead Trio Loved To Drink, Drive Fast

Subaru Impreza WRX Was Going 101-109 MPH

POSTED: 2:13 pm MST January 21, 2008
UPDATED: 3:38 pm MST January 21, 2008

A sister of one of three victims killed when their vehicle slammed into a light structure said she wasn't shocked her brother died in a high-speed crash.

"The thing that really makes me feel much better about this is they died doing what they loved to do -- they were drinking, they were going fast and they were together," Lorie Flaherty told the Boulder Daily Camera (http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/15105040/%20http://www.dailycamera.com/news/2008/jan/20/trio-loved-speedy-cars-families-friends-remember/). "It gives me comfort, it does, to know those three things."

Michael Martin Flaherty, 21, idolized NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt and decorated his room with model cars and pictures of racers, his family said. His two closest friends -- Lucas Raymond Snyder and Amber Dawn Kowalski -- also shared his love for speed, friends told the newspaper.
Flaherty was blind in one eye, and unable to drive but he loved being a passenger in a fast car, his sister said. She said he would often sit with her as they raced at Bandimere Speedway.

His best friend since sixth grade, 21-year-old Snyder, also had speed and automobiles in his system. He was a driver for a lumber company and wanted to make a career in commercial driving, his mother Judy Snyder said.

Kowalski, the female in the group, loved to race cars as well, her ex-boyfriend told the paper. She bought the turbo-charged Subaru Impreza WRX a year ago and had called it "her baby."

Police have not said who was behind the wheel of the sports car when it crashed early Friday morning, but Flaherty's father said he doesn't harbor ill will toward that person.

"It was a bad decision," David Flaherty said. "If I heard they were going that fast, and they hadn't crashed, I would have chewed them out."

The three graduates of Centaurus High School were killed instantly last Friday morning when their Subaru Impreza WRX lost control on McCaslin Boulevard and slammed into a light pole structure at West Cherry Street. The impact sliced the car in half and caused the car to "disintegrate," police had said.

Investigators said it was traveling between 101 and 109 mph.

All three were thrown from the vehicles and died at the scene.

Lorie Flaherty said the three friends had been drinking and hanging out at the Old Chicago in Superior Thursday night before the fatal crash.

man u alright? thats a big light post to take out! haha

lol yeah i was fine slid into it sideways and it hit the front left fender. no airbags going off. The aluminum pole managed to detatch from the ground and hop vertically up allowing my car to pass underneath before falling into the middle of the road. No top damage on the car at all. However: fender, side mirror, axle, and suspension work are being done at the shop and will total up to $3k
