If you're driving that car alot... commuting and what not. Id say go with the head unit!
But yeah, keep mudflaps and a skid plate near the top of your list for when you get a few extra bucks if you want to start rallyxing.

- The book likely won't cover offroad handling
- I wouldn't fancy any head unit you can buy for 80 bucks.. I dunno, I suppose anything with a line-in would work better than a tape-MP3 deal
- Hella 500s could be a pain to install, if that's a problem, and you'd need a way to mount them anyway
- Supertones would be easier to install..

Think I'd go with the Supertones.

Nice Outback. I like the one in the garage too.
As far as my choice of what to get: I'd suggest saving a little more and buying a nice stereo if you really want a new one maybe one with HD and either line in or USB in, the 500's are a huge improvement over the stock lights and iirc they use the same adapters as the GC RS an the bugeyes, the supertones and a finished look to the grill area and if you are a horn person then they are hard to beat. Books are always good to have with you for when you spend the night in the back, ski trips, camping, too cheap for a hotel at a rally/rally-x. Really they are all good choices sorry I can't help more.
