My friend is giving me a 1987 subaru legacy wagon and everyone is telling me to part it out and sell it. BUT since my impreza looks so good
clean I want something with big tires and a nice lift to get it extra dirty!
thats my plan for the wagon if anyone has any sites or suggestions for good parts lemme know. Ill have a full setup write up on everything i do lol and lots of pics :-D this one small pic inspired me SO much

What condition is it in? Does it run, is it a rustbucket etc. What's your level of mechanical ability/willingness to learn/available places to work? Those kind of questions would decide it for me.

Anyway I guess if anyone knows about lifting old Subies and keeping them going, it's Zap... those are his cars in the pic.

Man I just love those lifted GLs.. they look like old-school Tamiya R/C cars.. :D

Well I say if it runs or close to it and it isn't falling apart with rust then keep it. Lord knows I would. If it's a 4x4 with dual range t/case then you could have a blast with that thing off-road, on-road or anywhere in between.

Ive had both a dual range 4spd '83 and a singlerange 4x4 5spd '90

If i remeber correctly they didnt make the dualranges after 85 or 86, I doubt yours will be a dualrange...

and its not a Legacy its a "Loyale" or a "GL"

the problem with lifting and getting bigger tyres is that the 14inch or 15inch rims are REALLY hard to find....

www.ultimatesubaru.org (http://www.ultimatesubaru.org) <-- the place to learn about older subarus ;) and they have a large F/S section!

no tank tracks lol. When I get it to my house Ill get pix I want 15s on it, maybe 14s. The only thing wrong is the coil on it. Nothing big and its not rusty or falling apart.

These cars can be a lot of fun. An EJ22 engine supposedly fits very nicely into these cars. I assume it currently has an EJ18?

its prolly not an EJ motor.... Its most likely an EA motor...

Someone makes bellhousing adapters that allow you to bolt up an EJ to the transmission, our you could swap a full drivetrain...

this is why you go to www.ultimatesubaru.org (http://www.ultimatesubaru.org) ;) they have all the answers on the old ones! Just dont forget to come back and post dirty pics!

gotta love goold ol EA82

yes they did make the dual range on the 85 and 86. those years are considered to be the sturdest for the transmission,

dual ranges are more common in 87-88

single ranges are most common in 89+

if youre into the older ea82 stuff then have a peep at this:
