I was wondering, if it was possible to launch on a dirt road in my 4EAT 2.5i. I was wondering, because i want to kick up some dust and get my impreza dirty :muhaha:
And in case you were wondering, I will not be irresponsible. This dirt road, is always empty.
Thanks!

It's possible but I would imagine it's really bad for your transmission...
after doing a quick search on google, this is what I found...

Er, it's dirt. Put it in 1 and mash the GO pedal. You will "launch" quite well that way with an auto.
Biggest concern of brake torquing is heat -- it generates a LOT! If you do it very very briefly and make sure things cool down appropriately afterwards (drive around mildly for a while and let the cooling system do its thing), I can't imagine much concern there. You're not going to hurt a planetary gear and the TC should be fine, as you should be letting go before it fully locks up anyhow.
Obey standard maintenance practices for the auto (change your fluid regularly and properly, and never let it overheat), and I would have no concerns doing this for like RallyX/etc.
One thing I will say is that the center diff in the 4EAT is not very "sane" for dirt/gravel/etc driving. I did it for quite a while in my '03 2.5RS with a 4EAT. It really bounces the bias around trying to understand what's going on, and ultimately you just kind of end up going slow with poor weigh transfer control. The 5EAT works better, but is still awkward. The crappy 4kg 50/50 in the 5MT is a world better on the loose stuff, if for no reason other than it's predictable.

interesting...
But aren't these for WRX models or models with a turbo?

I tried mashing the gas on a dirt road, but all it did was a slow acceleration :( slower than a honda. I felt ashamed.
Am i supposed to take turn off VDC?
Thanks!

Yes, disable VDC first. VDC will brake the wheels when it detects spin, so you start going slow in a controlled fashion. It doesn't sound like what you're after.
Did you see the VDC light pop on when you did it?

Will do next time.
I actually dont know since i wasn't paying attention to the dash. Next time i hit dirt/gravel, i will try VDC ON then OFF and see if the VDC light pops up.

VDC is Vehicle Dynamics Control, Subaru's electronic stability control system with traction control. VDC is also the name of an Outback Limited model from 2001-2004. The components of the VDC system are:
Direction: uses brakes to slow down wheels to reduce spin and help control vehicle direction.
Skidding: yaw and steering wheel sensors use brakes to slow down spinning wheels and re-direct power to the wheel(s) with the best traction to re-gain control.
Engine power: controls engine output to slow spinning by reducing spark to cylinders to cut back power and help re-gain control.
Yes, you have to turn off VDC.
