View Full Version : Would I be a poser if..

So I just picked up a bone stock 2003 WRX (and love it) but to my shock and dismay, the dealer RIVETED their badge to my trunk:pissed: WTF. I am taking it back to have them do something about it, but I highly doubt they are going to do the body work to fix it.(unless you have some advice?) I was thinking of having them put a different badge in its place, saving them the body work, and me from going postal, but I don't know if I should have them put the STi badge there.... The car isn't converted, and has no STi parts yet... but I will not be happy with holes in my fracking trunk. Suggestions? STi badge a no-no?

They riveted their badge to a car that they sold off their used lot, after you bought it, without asking you first?

WTF indeed.

I dunno about the STI badge. Maybe a different badge? How about one of those "badge of ownership" deals that Subaru is doing?

I'm pretty damn sure the car didn't have it there when I test drove and agreed to pursue sale the night before I picked it up. Even if I did see it, who the hell rivets crap into a car? Seriously?

Saw the badge of ownership deals... Cheesy or no?

I sort of think the ownership badges are cheesy, but that didn't stop me from ordering one... just kept me from installing it so far. I just have to come up with a location that looks good.

If I had holes in my trunk, I would go for that over the STI badge.

Alternatively, you could find one of these:

:-( This blows... I don't want cheesy, and I don't want poser. But I ABSOLUTELY don't want holes! FML! Stupid mother f'ers. Why couldn't it have just been some double sided tape.

The stuck on dealer badges are bad enough, but riveted ones.. well I'd be marching back to the dealer asking what the hell they were thinking also.

STI badge on a WRX sends the same message as a Type R badge on a Civic Si. IMO.

At least the badge of ownership thing is legit.

How about one of these?

Now we're talking, I could do an awd badge. Good idea.

DI sticker would be cool, but its in the spot that the STi badge would be, between the key hole and right side of trunk...

How about this one? Does it go well enough with the WRX badge?

I think the ownership badges are kinda neat. At least subaru is giving away free things for you to put on your car showing your love of the brand.

Sti badge on a wrx is a no go. Thats mad ricerish. When I swapped trunks with a buddy of mine for the sti wing i shaved off the sti badge and reistated my wrx badge on the back. Along with my ownership badges. DI decal will be the next thing on the back.

Can we see a picture of the riveted badge?

I'd certainly look for a permanent solution but I think I'd start with some electrical or Gorilla tape or 3M blue painters tape to cover the holes after I tore that POS off...

I'll take a pic in a second, its right where the STi badge would be

Geef that's a pretty large badge. At least in CA they know better not to f-k with people's cars and add things like that to them (people out here really DO care about how their cars look from the factory).

Id be pissed for sure. IMO rocking an STi badge doesn't require the parts, its a Subaru company.

Its obviously bugging you. so it has to come off.

What badges will cover up those marks? I see a lot of WRXes with STI body work swaps. and vice versa.. enough that I don't really think either way (bad or good) more of a "meh typical"

Its up to you. if you like the look of the STI badge. Do It!

adding a badge or taking one off doesn't make you a poser. Putting mud flaps, rally lights ,and then refusing to drive on dirt or snow makes one a poser. (there's some reno Subarus that are like that.)

How about getting an "unamused" smiley badge (with an arrow pointing towards the dealer badge) and rivet that on right next to it.

Sooper, I hope to be in your neck of the woods next summer for a bit; have my eye set on spending a couple days at Trestle mountain bike park.

Ya, and I know at some point I will have STi parts... and I will definitely not add the rally oriented parts I plan to and then not put them to use. No worries there!

I'll see what they say when I take the car by the dealer, it'd be nice if they just agreed to fix the holes, but I doubt they will. I may just go with the "awd" badge. Idk... I wouldn't view myself as anything but a Subaru enthusiast with the STi badge, and I guess that's all that really matters, right?

i think it's against the law in ca for a dealer to put their name on the car i believe.. some lawsuit in the 80/90's? even the little vinayls. this may not apply to used cars.. because carmax has their crap on cars.

I would wait till you have some parts, then find some badges of the brands you like or add

I may have to look into that too. Parts get changed tho... I would feel stupid if I had no parts of that brand eventually

Dumb question (can't tell from the photo): Are you sure its really rivets and not part of the design of the badge? I'm used to seeing silver centers in black pop rivets.

Edit: Nevermind.. searched a bit, seems that dealer really likes to do this to cars.

i would be pissed... the ownership badges would cover that but it is in an awkward place for them... depending on how many you get you may not have enough room with the lock being in the way...

I would probably only want one or two from the ones they have listed on Subaru's site...

Any of you guys rock the ownership badges? I don't want to be the only one here with one haha

Not that I like to follow trends but... these seem to have mixed feelings of cool/not so cool

go on ebay and search 'subaru badge' or 'subaru emblem' and you'll have a few thousand to choose from. they usually include basic dimensions as well.

IMO, putting an STi badge on a WRX is like putting an Si badge on a civic DX... kinda poser. i dont know if anyone has brought this up, but i dont think that STi badge will cover the holes

i like the AWD or personalizing badges. who are we to tell you that though? do what you want ;)

good luck

I think I'll end up with the awd so I'm not stepping on any toes. I know I wouldn't be the only bugeye with a STi emblem but I like the awd one good enough

Moby45
01-12-2012, 05:31 AM
You have a bugeye? Thats a different story my friend. Sti badge on a bugeye to me is different than the rest of the model years of which had an sti in the usa. Lol

Nevertheless(yeah i made it one word), a dirtyimpreza decal would step on nobodys toes and would instantly gain 5000 awesome points to any car. Plus, it makes you drive faster. And like all decals it adds 100hp.(trying to be funny on that last bit.) lol

i can not believe a dealer would 'rivet' their badge into a customer trunk. That is insane to me.. license plate frames are fine! wtf...

Dude you need to just find a emblem long enough to put in there. Those STi type RA badges or something simular are usually longer rectangular in shape. It would cover both your holes up anyway... GL man that sucks
